First of all hello everyone.

For awhile now I've been recieving horrible lag whilst trying to play many games online over Xbox Live, and when hosting a game others seem to recieve horrible lag aswell.

I'm on Virgins 20mb package. Its especially bad now, but speed tests dont seem to show much of a problem. I'm just at a loss what the problem is. I've tried many suggestions posted here (port forwarding, dmz) but its so far done nothing.

I'm not sure what information you need, but here is what my modem downstream/upstream results are, and my latest speed test result

Downstream Receive Power Level : 5.1 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 39.0 dB
Upstream transmit Power Level : 33.5 dBmV

Thankyou for reading, and any help given

What are your DNS Servers?

If you log into your router, you should see something that tells you the router's connection status. It should have your DNS Servers, an ip address such as 194.168.4.100

There are issues with those servers, you may want to consider an alternative such as OpenDNS found here http://www.opendns.com/

The site shows you how to set them up.

:tu: Switched to OpenDNS myself a long whiles ago and never looked back, also helped with my PS3 connection.
Also have to consider Yamishira that it could be an issue with the game servers aswell as them (generally being US etc) alot further away than Birmingham like on your latest Speedtest.
If you're hosting games consider Virgins less than plentiful upload rates and are you playing during peak times? Just a thought. :)
Personally my ps3 connection is usually pretty decent and (like you've already tried) i run it under DMZ, have you tried other multiplayer games on your 360?
- Kfk.

I've just set it up now, and it seems alot better. I really am thankful, I never knew about this sort of stuff, so a big thanks.

It stands a chance it could be a little on the servers side aswell yes, but it was definately me aswell, as other than lag I dont really have any other major problems.

Time wise I tend to play late (1am onwards) as most people on my friendslist are from America. Only games I've tried is Phantasy Star Universe, and Left 4 Dead, which are the 2 main games I play, with the former requiring quite alot of constant upload, and download.

Thanks again, hopefully this will sort this problem out. :)

Nearly all xbox 360 games don't have their own servers

Haha you are experiencing exactly what plagued me weeks ago, i have asked around a no-one can give a definitive answer as to why it lags when hosting especially considering 0.72 upload is ample.

I switched to 50 meg which is on the new DOCSIS 3.0 network and now no longer suffer from problems when hosting (it's perfect)

I think it's an issue with DOCSIS 1.0 or something because 20 meg is messed up for so many people when hosting
