They are coming next monday, just wondering a few things about the modem that is supplied.

There are 4 computers connected to my current belkin router which is the G+ one with 4 ethernet ports on the back.

Does this router/modem have 4 ports as well and what is the wireless connection like on it as it comes with a dongle as well?

Also I use the IP filter to block internet access to my stepson at certain times of the day/week.

I was wondering if this modem/router has similar abilities

Yes it has 4 ethernet ports on the back + 1 for the modem.

And yes, you can setup internet access blocks during certain times.

Wifi speeds would depend, you cannot connect any G device to the router as it will slow it down to G speeds - typically about 25mb - Wired is best to get closest to 50mb.

Apart from the dongle that comes with it I assume that is N not G?

you get the Netgear WN11 Rangemax Wireless-N usb dongle and the WNR200 Wireless router.

The routers been great for me so far, i was used to a G router, at 65% just downstairs, now i get 97% its great for free...(well the activation charge i guess, but for that price its still good).

To get as high a speed as possible using the N dongle you have to have a USB2 port on your computer not a standard USB port.

I live in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands. When I had asked for an upgrade from 20MB to 50MB Broadband I was given a 'WNR2000' with no USB Sticks. The Technician knocked on the door and said 'Merry Christmas' lol

Im not sure if it depends what area you live in, but it seems that Virgin dont give out any Wireless USB Sticks.

Am I wrong?

As part of the 50Mb package you receive the router and the USB dongle if you have not received it then you need to call in and ask why.

I asked the question and was told that the offer had stopped. This is about a month ago.

It now seems there is a £20 charge for the USB Sticks, please see:

If your computer doesn't have a built-in wireless "N" adapter, you'll need this adapter to get all the benefits of your wireless "N" router. Suitable for desktops and laptops.

Free with Broadband XXL

That is what that link says so you need to call up about it.

I loooooooooooooove virgin media so much.

The customer service is 2nd to none if your live somewhere close to a dumping site!

This is getting well out of hand. Virgin needs to wake up and do something about the customer service representatives that are yet to learn maths!!!

I will call and ask them. Bet they say no!

I called Virgin to ask why I did not get a Wireless "N" Adaptor with the Upgrade to 50MB, the bloke asked account details then started to yawn and passed me over to the '50MB Broadband Team'.

I have been on the phone 15 mins and im waiting on hold. I will reply when/if I get an answer.
