Hey all, i'm new to the forums and i've had quite enough of the berks on VM's end of the phone. Seems none of them can understand what it is that i'm trying to do. We have the old multi room going on and from what i understand i can use the v box as a modem? Just wondering really if any of you friendly chaps out there can advise what i can do here.
Regards, Carl

Not anymore, no. You need a separate modem

We already have one across the house, just looking for this as a bit of simplicity..

Why not get a router then?

If i was to get a modem from say a friend that's moved to sky, can i just plug that into my cable?

Virgin no longer support broadband via set top boxes and the only way to have broadband in other rooms is either via wireless or using ethernet.

No. If you want a second Modem you will have to pay for a second broadband connection.
No. If you want a second Modem you will have to pay for a second broadband connection.
Which will have to be from another broadband provider.

They said they don't do this when i asked them about an hour ago. They supply one connection per household. When i asked if i could pilfer a friends modem he said 'we don't condone this but it isn't illegal':p:

The friend's modem will sit there being a shiney paperweight and nothing more. It is linked to an account.

oh really? They get mac'd or what?:(
It may not be illegal, but it *is* against Virgin's Terms and Conditions. For security reasons , we cannot allow discussions of how Virgin's security systems work (it would be one of their security systems that would prevent you connecting your friend's box).
*if* virgin won't supply a second connection, your best option would be to use a router..
