Is DOCSIS3 on a new network so to speak, for example is it running on new cables?

Sorry if i sound dumb i don't really understand the DOCSIS jagon

As I understand it, it's only a new network in that it uses extra frequencies/channels on the existing cable to your home. There's 3 or 4 downstream channels so there's more bandwidth available. It may use different equipment at the headend also but ultimately it's using the same cables/fibre between your home and the uBR.

The fibre optics that Virgin already use are capable of much higher speeds but the main diffrence is the headend equipment and in the UBR.

Indeed, shame about the coaxial bit in between our homes and the fibre optic bit which isn't so flush with capacity ;)

It runs on the same physical network, just on different frequencies / channels.
