my 50 meg seems slow my starting a download

i have now go 50meg but when i start a down load like a spped test or a larg file from a web page it seems to be a bit slow getting to top speed what could this be?

eg when loading a small page seems a bit slow to respond to the page load up after clicking on it.

but when the page has started to load seems to load yp quite quick could this be a setting problem

If you are a Virgin Media customer then the best speedtest is from the links below.


click on these 2 gamefiles battlefield_2142_demo.exe and bfme2demo_english_final.exe and save them to your desktop, and then wait a couple of minutes then write down the transfer rates on the files that are running add them together then multiply them by 8 and you will get a truer download speed.

Remember to stop and delete the files.

i.e : 250Kbps X 8 = 2Mbps, 500Kbps X 8 = 4Mbps, 1250Kbps X 8 = 10Mbps, 2500Kbps X 8 = 20Mbps

Then add 10% to the final figure to account for any processes running on your computer.

That is only for XP as Vista should not require optimising but check that your machine meets the minimum spec.

I "think" I understand what the orginal poster is saying about slow download starts during speedtest. Wit 50Mbit I get the same.

When I start a test via speedtest.net the speed arrow starts and stops and fluctuates all over the place between 0 and 1Mb and then fly's to the 50Mb limit. Some times the time taken to run a full test can also be ages. The time needle can just stop at around 85 percent then start again then stop again etc. I use the gamefiles dl site and sometimes this can be great and other times absolutely rubbish.

I am trying to work out why this happens too.
