Unable to send smtp email message receive pop3 ok

I am having a big problem with NTLWORLD emails via Thunderbird

If I try to send an email I get he following.

an error occurred sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting:
aamtaout01-winn-ispmail.ntl.com [my email isp address]

Spoke with Virginmedia technician he says it is probably the Firewall on my Peak 802.11 b/g wireless router firewall

Any help appreciated

Should the smtp server name not be ntlworld.com instead of ntl.com ?

Just checked my ntlworld info in outlook and it's ntlworld in both fields

THanks for reply I also noted this to Service india

my pop3 is pop.ntlworld.com

my smtp is

Description <Not specified>
Server name smtp.ntlworld.com
Port 25
User name [my first and surname]
Secure connection TLS (if available)

What else can I try?

Here are the Outlook Express instructions for @ntlworld.com so just copy the relevant sections and it should work.

five minutes doing what you stated except I am on Vista so set up Windows mail but without touching Mozilla Thunderbird the email server I concentrate on using it works perfect

All now working quickly and perfect

Why can't the India call centre do that
