hey jack,
i'm not sure what an FEC error is either, but a quick search got me even more lost!!

maybe some more info about your specific problem might help?
FEC stands for Far-End Correction.
It is to do with correcting any errors in the data stream.
Transmission errors such as noise, interference, or distortion will occur due to problems with the signal. Once an error is detected, the most common correction scheme is to request a retransmission.
Another correction method adds some bits to the transmitted data, allowing the data to be corrected at the receiving end. This is known as FEC.
Broadbanding may give further clarification if he see's this thread.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forward_error_correction
Basically a way of allowing the receiver to correct some errors without needing to request retransmission.

I always feel daft telling a customer there's FEC errors. Can't use FEC as a word cos it sounds like a swear word, so I end up telling them it's forward error correction errors :erm: Which sounds like a contradiction in itself.
Thanks, I understand now. Virgin seem to have solved the problem now.
Jack :-)
