Hi all.

Just had VM tv fitted in, which entailed a small rewire in the loft, replaced a splitter and some connections. Don't know if thats relevant but there you go.

My issue is my upload speeds seem to be about 1 tenth of what I think they should be. Downloads are fine however.

Info.

Harlow area, ex NTL.

Speedtest results...

and thats pretty consistent across the times I've run it today.

Any thoughts?

I reckon it's just the speedtest being silly, if you only had 0.06Mbit upload you wouldn't be able to get a download that quick.

Try another tester.

Nope, turns out because I've had cable tv installed, VM, in thier wisdow have reset my internet. Had to go through the activation process. This has changed my ip address and cocked up my router, which now longer seems to pick up an ip address from the modem.

Another glorious success.

Turn both off.
Wait 15 seconds.
Turn modem on.
Wait 2 minutes.
Turn router on.
Wait 2 minutes.
Try to access the internet.

Usually solves any problems like that.

I had tried that several times without success. However, everything now seems to be working. Odd thing is though, the ip address my router has seems to be vastly different from the one 'whats my ip' sites tell me.

No matter, as long as it works :)

hey tbirdx,

now the issue seems resolved (if not explained) i would just like to add that the 'whats my ip site is notoriously unreliable to get your external ip. either look at the staus page of you router or use something reliable like speedtest.net :)

Thats more like it.

To explain. This morning, I had internet fine, at the speeds above. After I had the V box installed, I started a new contract for TV, phone and net.

So in effect they cancelled my old net connection and gave me a new one. I had to go through the validation procedure which didn't complete. After that my router failed to get an IP address from the modem, for some reason unknown.

I did power everything down several times to no avail but eventually it all burst back into life. However, the status page of the router shows a different ip address to the actual address in the 'whats my ip' pages, (they are correct btw), which it never did before, but hey, it works, I can still use remote desktop if I need to and all other 'puters and devices can access the net.

That'll do. :)
