Slow speeds in the Edinburgh area just now, is this the throttle period?

It is within possible throttle period, but you are not throttled.

Strange as I get that poor result from speedtest, and yet downloading from gamefiles at blueyonder gives me 500x2 for 2 downloads simultaneously which is correct for 10 meg.

Just goes to show that we can't trust those net speed test sites.

Is there a difference between download and browsing speed?

How do you know I am not throttled?

Upload is too high.

Downloads will cop better than browsing if the upload is congested, this would most likely be an issue on your PC though. Speed tests aren't accurate, if the site is busy it will slow down.

Best advice I can give is try several tests and take the higher one rather than a n average, downloading from gamefiles is fairly accurate, it is what we use.
