How about indicating which part of that actually means your on DOCSIS 3, its pretty meaningless to 99% of people.

It says registered with a DOCSIS 1.1 config file... since when is the number 1, 3?

Welshchris

Well DOCSIS 1.1 is what is registering on the non DOCSIS 3 modems when being migrated to the DOCSIS 3.0 Network

DOCSIS 1.1 and 2.0 are what they're being moved to depending on what tier you're on. The lower end (2 and 10Mbit) are 1.1, 20Mbit is 2.0.

turkey thats rubbish, if u look at mine im on 20mb and they r using 1.1.

Turkey tell me if i didnt know what i was talking about why would i have posted this? LOL look at previous logs from users in cardiff that have been put onto the Docsis 3.0 network and also have DOCSIS 1.1. I think u will find its u that dont know whats going on and what u posted is wrong not i.

what actually changed to signify you're now on the DOCSIS 3 network?

That bit says he is now sharing a 50Mb uBR as it is a 1.1 config file.

You lot would argue day is night and would still be doing it as the world ended...;)

Not sure where you got that from. There's no DOCSIS 2.0 in use on the VM network to any kind of scale. Might be the odd very isolated trial but the migrated 20Mbit are on 1.1.

I was going to say that didn't think VM ever used DOCSIS 2.0

I think it all depends where you get your info from and how much you believe it.

As I understood it, the old network was all DOCSIS1.1. They are now upgrading to DOCSIS3.0 which is backwards compatible with DOCSIS2.0.

They didn't want to supply costly DOCSIS 3.0 modems to slow customers, so would use the DOCSIS2.0 standard for those instead as this allows increased security and therefore makes it harder to clone modems.

It's probably all rubbish, but I read it somewhere too.

It would only have improved upstream speeds not the more e-peen enlarging downstream and some STBs on the network really dislike DOCSIS 2 to the point where they lock up and require rebooting. Software fix should have been rolled out now.

DOCSIS 2 upstreams have been tested in Ashford at very least as part of the Arris Pre-DOCSIS 3 pilot and are almost certainly being tested on the 200Mbit BSR trial but despite most of the line cards being capable they aren't really being used on the network as a whole (All MC28U 2 downstream 8 upstream cards have DOCSIS 2 PHY capability).

Some bits of the network where 3.2MHz 16QAM upstream is a bit precarious or even not possible would need CapEx before they could support D2 upstreams also.

I just had a thought which phaps someone can answer for me. Although we are on different tiers but are now using the Docsis 3 BSR, Would this mean that we are now be under the same traffic management policy or unlimited like 50mb?

Just a thought as i now woke up lol

Your STM policy is dictated by the config shoved to your modem, so you'll still get the same treatment as every other 20Mbit customer in the country. :)

No caffeine this morning and I KNOW that's correct information! Go me! :D

Nearly, the STM policy is actually dictated by configuration on the CMTS and is nothing to do with what's on the modem, apart from the mapping between class of service on the modem and its' STM profile. It's the configuration on the CMTS that does all the work, the class of service on the modem just indicates which policies are to be used at the CMTS ;)

It's perfectly possible for 20Mbit customers on any particular CMTS to be treated totally differently, or local CMTS quirks to cause problems and are - just ask the lucky people on Dalston hubsite ;)

Why worry what docsis you are on, after all its if you get on or near your actual speed that really counts!!!

1. DOCSIS 2 upstreams
2. Arris Pre-DOCSIS 3 pilot
3. 200Mbit BSR trial
4. All MC28U 2 downstream
5. 8 upstream cards
6. DOCSIS 2 PHY capability

what are 1-6

are these characteristsics are good or bad if you have them

what happens eg if you don't have a MC28U
