Hello

Ive recently got VM Cable and im having issues where at times i get connected via wireless and all looks fine but i cant browse anything. I have a valid IP issued by DHCP and i can connect to the netgear router via the default Gatway address but if i try and browse i get page cannot be displayed. I have to reboot the router and modem before things kick back to life?

Here are some settings that ive read about, it seems some levels are too high, can someone confirm please?

Cable Modem : DOCSIS 1.0/1.1/2.0 Compliant
Boot Code Version : 1.1.2c
Software Version : 2.111.1000
Hardware Version : 1.9

Downstream Frequency : 331000000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM64
Downstream Symbol Rate : 5056.941 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps32Increment4
Downstream Receive Power Level : 11.6 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 41.5 dB

Upstream Frequency : 29200000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QAM16
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 61.0 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

Many thanks

The upstream power level is too high. You will need a VM technician to come to adjust the power levels. Downstream is slightly on the high side as well, so the tech might want to adjust it a wee bit lower.

If you losing packets to the default gateway with SACM connected to the PC then that could indicate a problem and could relate to the high upstream power level. You should not be getting any packet loss to the default gateway.

To ping your default gateway:

Open the Command Prompt. Usually in the start menu/all programs/accessories
Type: ipconfig and press enter on keyboard.
Type in : ping -n 50 (The numbers of the default gateway including dots as well)
If you losing packets then it a good indicator of a problem.

Hope this helps.

The downstream levels are high at 11.6 they could do with being reduced at the DP ,that would also help with your upstream levels .
At 61 the connection will keep dropping .

Downstream Receive Power Level : 11.6 dBmV : Borderline to high
Downstream SNR : 41.5 dB : spot on

Upstream transmit Power Level : 61.0 dBmV : Way to high

You need to call Tech Support as you need an engineer visit to adjust your power levels.

Call 151 from a Virgin phone or 0845 454 1111 from any other phone.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread a bit but just in case I'm missing something how would increasing attenuation at the DP to drop the downstream power lower the upstream Tx level?

If you aren't seeing any issues whatever your levels are they are probably fine.

55 and up is not good.

You would not be attenuating the levels at the DP you would be reducing the signal by moving to another tap bank . So I have been led to beleive .
