For the last week or 2, I've been getting speeds of 2-5mb (im on 10mb), and PLoss is ridiculous. No idea why but gaming is impossible, it gets worse at night.

Frequency 331000000 Hz Locked
Signal to Noise Ratio 33 dB
Power Level 2 dB
Channel ID 4
Frequency 34000000 Hz Ranged
Power Level 33 dBmV

Thanks :)

Power levels are fine, could be upstream SNR (which you can't see)

How much packet loss are you getting? Try ping-n 100 bbc.co.uk or the address of the gaming server - or ideally your default gateway (or that of your router if you are using one.

Pinged the BBC, PLOSS is 9%

Just checked my D/L speed, standing at a solidly pathetic 2mb!?

I've tried OpenDNS but with no visible improvement.

Cheers for responding :)

I'm on 20Mbit but I get various speeds from 8Mbit and up to 18Mbit.
My stats are:
Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 4
Downstream Frequency : 586750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM64
Downstream Symbol Rate : 6952 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps12Increment17
Downstream Receive Power Level : -13.5 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 28.7 dB

Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 3
Upstream Frequency : 25800000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QPSK
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 51.0 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

Should I complain about it? I'm located in Gosport, Hampshire .

Hiawatha, you downstream power and SNR are both on the low side - I would call tech support.

Jambone, that amount of packet loss will slow things down certainly, if you get the same for your default gateway which willl most likely be the ip address from the connection link above but change the last number to 1, if you are on a wireless connection check for packet loss to your modem and router.

Hi Joxer, I pinged my default gateway and got an 18% PLOSS, I can't help but feel, however that this is something to do with the poor connection - when I used to get 10mb, my PLOSS was minimal, now it's dropped to 3mb and I've got a high PLOSS. :\

Thnx .

Rebooted everything, reinstalled wireless drivers and even moved a printer (LOL) and the PLOSS and speed seem to be better ;)

If you're getting packet loss on your default gateway, you have a LAN issue - nothing to do with your internet connection.

On a wired connection, you should be getting zero packet loss. Don't test using wireless links as they are utterly unreliable and unpredictable.

If you're getting packet loss on a wired connection, and no other hub/switch is in the way, your router is likely at fault. I've seen a factory reset of the router help in this scenario.

Hmm, well I was using wireless, I may check wired though ;) Cheers.

Note: I was referring to your LAN default gateway. If you get packet loss on the external gateway, you may have a cable modem issue.

I think it was my default gateway I pinged from my PC...the IP was 192.168.1.1 ;)

OK, well you should get zero packet loss on that when wired.

I may test it but i dunno, cba haha :P

Obviously not cba'd enough to not post in this forum complaining about packet loss though.

Please eliminate any potential issues on your local network by connecting directly to the modem and retesting, thanks.

I can't, my PC is upstairs about 30ft from the router & modem, I will try to get a laptop to test it.

which points to wifi issues some more. 30ft between floors is quite a distance.

Well if we're talking direct then I'd say more like 15 in a line ;) haha sorry.

Your router is it wireless G or wireless N, if G consider upgrading it.

Wireless G - may do then ;) will look into a new modem first, still stuck on the original surfboard ahaha

That is more than capable of 10Mb.
