Unlikely they will change it. As it is more than capable of speeds up to 20mbps. However if they decide there is a fault, it will get replaced. Phone faults on 151

No my friend had his modem changed because it was crappy at handling packets but unfortunatly he has gone on holiday so i cant ask him how he got his.

Dialling faults line on 151. If they agree there is a fault they willeither send a tech or a modem out to you.

The 255 modem will work perfectly with your internet unless your modem is faulty. It's more likely that your connection is a bit iffy and an engineer could check that out for you.

The internet on my computer is fine its my xbox whats the problem because the ambit 255 cant handle as many packets as the ambit 256 can.

Probably had a faulty modem. I'm using a Ambit 250 which is exactly the same as the 255 apart from it doesn't have the USB port on the back.

You should check your modem levels for up stream and downstream via this link.

http://192.168.100.1/ login and password both 'root'

Paste your 'Upstream transmit Power Level' and 'Downstream Receive Power Level' and 'Downstream SNR' levels here and i'm sure someone will be able to tell you if they're ok or not.

I've got an Ambit 250 (blue ntl branded) and that works perfectly well for my 2 PC's with both doing online gaming at the same time (one playing BF2 and the other various MMORPGs that the mrs plays).

The 2 modems are the same apart from the removal of the USB port and the branding.

You need to work out where the lag is occurring, have you tried running a traceroute to the server you are trying to play on?

For a start which game are you getting the lag on, is it one game mainly or all MP games?

The problem with Xbox 360 is most games use P2P and if the host as a bad connection then most people will lag really badly, so there is not alot you can do.

Probably nothing to do with your modem, just that your upload speed sucks. A common issue with VM. How many players are you hosting?

You could prevent yourself from getting host by changing your nat settings to moderate.

Sounds a lot like you don't have enough upstream. 9 to 16 players depending on the game is a big ask for a 768kbps upstream.

However here (http://gearsforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=661616) suggests that it's not a bandwidth issue but that there are other problems with GoW2 that cause lag.

Either way if the modem or a router couldn't handle the number of connections players would get disconnected.

If the X-Box is connected wirelessly that can cause issues too - a variable quality wireless connection is lethal for latency and packet loss.

Virgin Media 256 (from February / March 2008)

The 256 model will be yet again supplied to Customer specification by Ambit ( www.ambitbroadband.co.uk ). From the outside it is identical to the 255 model, but features a revised Broadcom chipset, the BCM3349KFBG

This modem is still in a black Ethernet only housing, and is still "Dual Mode", and will be deployed across the whole Virgin Media network, including the ex-Telewest platform.

Does support 10 and 20 Mbps Tier of Service, is capable of 40Mbps+
