No I don't have that.
It seems it's back up to normal for browsing speeds.

This is odd I been having this for a few days now.
I didn't know if it was the Netgear router that being changed tomorrow, so I put my old one in till I get, and it was ok for a bit then, last night and this morning, it went to pot again.

EDIT

This is weird, it slow then fast.
I can only presume this is due to most people being off and lots of people using the net around here on VM.

You are on 50Mb so the should not be many people using your exchange so possibly a call to Tech Support could be in order.

although there may not be a lot of 50meg customers don't we share the bandwidth with the 20meg customers?

I just off the phone from the 50mb support team.
The person on the end of the phone spoke with a another VM person and they did tests on my connection and they said it was fine.

He then went, on to deleting and re-adding the modem to the account.
Then rebooted PC and check netstat.

Then the finally thing we did was put the network card into full 100meg duplex instead of auto and download some more via gamefiles and am now getting my speed back :D :D

Thank you to VM 50mb Support Team :)

Sometimes people think that they are on full duplex but turn out to be on automatic or even half duplex and when they go full duplex the difference can be astonishing.

If you get 50Mb always ensure that you are on full duplex and never assume, check it.

Can we check this out ourselves, or do we need to ask VM tech support?

Does it tell us this info in the modem config?

I do have a question I have a 1gb network card.
I set it to 100 meg full duplex, but it has 1gb full duplex.

Does it matter if it on 100 meg or 1gb ?

Try it and see, just remember to tell the tech next time time that you were not sure.:D

How are your speeds now Garry are they any better.

Yer, they back to normal around 42mb/45mb with it being on 100 meg full duplex.
I didn't see the 1gb till I went back after, so I will leave it alone.

My connection type says Auto Negotiation, should I change it to 100BaseTx Full Duplex, or 100BaseTx Half Duplex, 10 BaseT Full Duplex, 10 BaseT Half Duplex.

My Ethernet card is 32 bit PCI 10/100M Ethernet Adapter

This old link says only half duplex in win98 for 10Mb not full duplex and tells you not to use the other ones you posted. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/ethernet.html#ethernet

There appears to be 2 half duplex's, one is 100BaseTx Half Duplex, and the other is 10 BaseT Half Duplex.

Not sure which one to choose.

I would go with the 100 as that will be quicker, remember if it does not work you can always reverse it.

Well I may go back to using Internet Explorer as even when I have the local host selected I get good speeds like this one.

Good grief... I didn't think anyone was still back there..

I've not seen a win98 support customer in years.

Let me say that there are still many of us around, and why, because apart from XP, the systems that followed have been extremely bad with flaws galore.

I am waiting for Windows 7.

I would just like to report and say that since I changed to Half Duplex 100Base my download speeds have improved greatly.

I can only think it was by doing so that this has happened, of course using the optimizer would also have helped.

So a big thank you to all who have helped me on this fantastic and very helpful forum.

:)

I noticed a bit of a slow down, this evening, but it seems it is back to normal at the moment
