Hi Guys

Need some help writing a email to practice manager

I went to register with a new surgery and today i was invited to have a chat with a doctor why i was moving. told him the reason i was moving was because it close to my home and also they had low medical fees.he asked if my wife and kids where moving i told him they where not moving because my wife said the doctor knows the medical problem my son has. and it would take the new doctor some time to understand. i have been told that i cant be a patient without my family. so i said whats my family got to do with my health. he came up with some crap about child abuse family problems ect

P.S i am moving because of medical test fees for Taxi badge my currant surgery charges £150 and this new surgery charge £70 medical forms can only be filled in by your registered doctor

medical forms can only be filled in by your registered doctor Nonesense, that money is going into his or her back pocket . You are paying not the trust.

I think if depends if your GP is private or works on behalf of the local primary care trust. If they are private, then basically they can charge what they like (at least thats my understanding).

Here are a few links you may find useful in relation to why the fees are applied and whether they are relevant to your 'case'.

Why do GPs charge sometimes charge fees (http://www.bma.org.uk/patients_public/whygpchargefees.jsp)

Factors to be considered when charging fees (http://www.bma.org.uk/employmentandcontracts/fees/feesparttimemed.jsp?page=2)

Fees for part-time medical services (http://www.bma.org.uk/employmentandcontracts/fees/feesparttimemed.jsp)

I am not going to comment since i don't know or can't verify the details of your case or circumstances. Hopefully the information will be useful.

I would contact your local PCT with regards to this, I take it from your location you are in High Wycombe, if that is the case, Bucks PCT (http://www.buckspct.nhs.uk/) are the people you need to contact. Go on their site and click the link for PALS (left hand side link) and see what they say.

I work in GP surgeries daily and it sounds like you would be better sticking where you are if they are going to be like that, what they are saying is a load of balls, they just want to get the whole family in because it makes them more money, have a word with the PCT and see what they say and also address your concerns in writing to the Practice Manager and or Lead GP at the surgery you intend on moving to.

If you want any more information drop me a PM and I will have a look when I am next at work on Tuesday.

Hope this helps.

Regarding your Taxi badge can any doctor do it or has it got to be your own doctor? The reason I'm asking is, I spent 10 years driving Taxis and our medicals could be done by any doctor, our medicals used to last until we were 55. Over the border in Mansfield they let you go to the local Hospital who charge £25 for the medical.

Your local health trust can request info from them, you can also have a look at them, if you are willing to pay! It cost £10.

Our "conditions" state that the medical must be carried out by your own G.P. or a "Consultant who has full access to your medical records".

I work for a foundation trust

They are slowly being transferred onto a patient database so the idea is eventually all your health records will be accessible anywhere within the UK (I work for a PCT and my friend is involved with NPFit)

The majority of patient records are now electronic and most are accessible from within other systems, some trust's are a little further on with this than others, we are of of the lead trusts in this. NPFIT can be the bain of my life sometimes!!

Matthew... NPfIT IS the bain of my life :@ - especially users who can't use the apps! "I Can't print from <enter national app name here>" yada yada yada :D - anyway, thats off topic.

Our trust has many records on patients stored electronically, though the system we use isn't (yet) registered as a national application and so may not yet be compatible with the ones that the GPs use (I work for a Mental Health Trust).

You CAN be registered with a different GP than your Family (I am :)) and whatever they told you is utter crap. You really should have said that the reason you are moving is confidential :). As it really isn't any of their business is it? GPs get funding based on the amount of work they do for the NHS (per blood test for example) so the more patients they have on their books, the better it is for them...which is why they were BS-ing about you not being able to leave because of your family.

You don't even need to tell the GP you are leaving provided the new GP has agreed to take you on NHS link (http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/1088.aspx?CategoryID=68&SubCategoryID=158)

Good luck!

Does that system start with a M and end with a S? It does indeed :) and the users dislike it with a passion!

I didn't know PMs were disabled by default... enabled now, PM away :)

Got email today

Dear Mr xxxxxx

I have looked into this and am told that GP’s are able to set their own charges as medical tests are considered a private arrangement with their patients.

With regards to your medical notes/history I would like to inform you that as far as I’m aware nobody else would have these notes.

I hope this answers your questions.

Regards

I went for a medical as my badge is coming up for renewl. doctor said the fee is £120 but i told him the going rate is £70 and he said he could not do anything about. once the form was filled and stamped he took it to the girl at counter to photocopy it and he walked back to his room. after few mins she gave me the form back in a evolope and walked off. so i call her and tell her its a medical form. she asks for £120 i say to her is this what i get for being honest i could off walked off and i tell her going rate is £70 so she says just pay £70 so i did. now i get a letter saying please pay the outstanding £50 What shall i do?

I'd contact your local PALS office in the PCT and ask them for advice. I'm sure they could look into this for you.

Without treading on toes, you were told the price before you started, you decided to go ahead with it knowing how much it was and not just how much you think you should pay.. On the plus side it's still £30 less than what you said on the 1st post.. result..

I personally would pay it and chalk it up to experience.

Different councils have different rules about the cert you need as a taxi driver.

Consult your insurance company to see if they can offer you advice on where to go for the cheapest price, any good specialist taxi insurer should know this.

If you do not really need to change doctors, apart from to save the money, maybe you should write them a brief e-mail or letter, and ask if they would consider doing it for £75 ?

Never any harm in asking, if you and your family have been with them a while, I am sure they would consider such a request.

All the best to you.

Whoops.................just read all the posts.......too late!!
