Hello there.

Firstly my names is Matt i live in Stoke on Trent. (ST3 area)

anyway.

I'v been a VM customer for about 5 years now, and not had any REAL problems...

However, in the past week or so i'v had nothing but problems with the internet

My network currently involes a black VM modem, connected to a linksys WRT54GR and there is 2 PC's connected to the router (only 1 is on most of the time) 2 xboxs (1 wireless 1 wired) and a laptop.

Now, at most, we'll have a pc, a laptop and 2 xboxs using the connection, this is not the problem.

The problem is, randomly iv been getting shocking speeds
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2009/04/44.png

and it takes forever to load anything so i end up rebooting the router and modem.

It happens most days at diffrent times, iv not changed any settings or changed anything on the network for years.

I'v rang VM and they straight away said it's my router, which tbh, i don't think it is, i use to be on 20mb/s and with the CC and that i'v downgraded to 10mb/s, i use to torrent alot (shame on me) and now i do none of that hardly any downloading/uploading i play on the xbox for about 3 hours a night.

So i'v come to you lot for help, i feel rather fobbed off i spend £80 a month with them, phone 2 x TV and L internet. :(

Iv been read about all this modem info so i thought id post this.

This is current: 00:49am

Cable Modem : Euro-DOCSIS 1.0/1.1/2.0 Compliant
Boot Code Version : 3.1.6d
Software Version : 2.94.1014
Hardware Version : 1.19

Downstream Receive Power Level : 1.3 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 33.3 dB

Upstream transmit Power Level : 47.5 dBmV

I'd like to think it isn't the router! So i thought id ask for help befor going out and spending money on a new one.

Many thanks

Matt Henty.

Hi

I'v took the router out of the network and ran just via the modem.

Still had the same, everything went REALLY slow reboot modem and fine.

took a speed test with just modem: 9854kb/s down 489kb/s up

And just plugged my router back in: 9900kb/s down 480kb/s up

so i'm stuck.

Virgin say it's the router, iv tested it with just the modem, does the same

Hi Matt,

have you done any tests ie, check for malware, disc defrag, clean out temp files, virus scan, this could help to speed up things..

hope this helps....:)

Hi

Yes, i know my network is clean, i am quite knowledgeble when it's comes to software etc.

It just happend again, and this is what the modem is saying.

Downstream Receive Power Level : 1.1 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 32.6 dB

Upstream transmit Power Level : 47.5 dBmV

I couldnt even load google.co.uk.

I don't know what to say to them, as they just insist on telling me it's the router :(
