unless the modem is faulty or unsupported for a new speed upgrade then they r very unlikely 2 change it.

As Chris said depends which model and what package you are on so below I have provided a link to help identify which modem and you can check for your self.

I had my old Surfboard for 8 or 9 years and it never gave me a single problem. It only got replaced last week when Virgin upgraded me to 20meg, so I'm hoping the new one is as reliable. The old Surfboard could only manage about 13meg on my tests - the new one jumped to over 19meg straight away.

The Ambits have good chipset in them but look cheap, I recently swapped my Motorola SB5100 for an Ambit 256 and it is quicker to reboot and a nice compact addition to my desk.

All modems that are being replaced by default are being replaced because they are not capable of going on the 50Mb tier and working at peak efficiency, so if you get a replacement use it and ignore advice to the contrary.

I got an email this week advising me that I should get my modem upgraded - Got an Ambit 200, however working through their website and it appears they do want to swap it out.

Need to try and avoid clicking the upgrade your speed button in the future then
