Hi people,

I am on the virgin 2mb broadband service but i'm recieving 10mb download speeds. Does this mean that they've upgraded me to 10mb or is it just a glitch. I've ran speed tests a few times and it comes up with around 10mb all the time.

If your "Maximum Downstream Data Rate" says 10240000 bps then you're on 10meg :)

My maximun downstream rate is 10242000 and upload rate is 514000, any idea of whats going on? Not that i'm unhappy with 10mb but i don't want to get billed for it.

Have they replaced your modem lately? they might have given you a chipped one by mistake :)

Absolutely nothings changed with my broadband. I've not had to phone up virgin regarding any problems. I just switched the internet on today and i noticed that the download speed was more tha 2mb, so i ran a few speed test and i found out that my internet speed was 10mb!

Its a free upgrade from 2 to 10 Meg for everyone. You should've got an email about it.

The free upgrade is not live yet, rollout is starting from sometime in May, Call Customer services and ask what packages you are on.

I've just checked my sister's speed who also has 2mb broadband and she lives a few doors away from me, she is also recieving download speeds of up to 10mb, we are in the Bolton area.

How do i do that?

Press the Print Screen button on your PC next to the numpad bit at the top.

Edit the rest of your desktop in paint and save it, upload it to a host such as imageshack.us

Wouldn't surprise at all if they are doing some testing of the uplift, as they clearly are looking at the above.

Just to fan some flames note that those speeds are marginally higher than the normal 10Mbit, oh my!

Well it makes a nice change from the "I'm on 10mb but receiving 2mb speeds!" brigade. :)

Hi people,

I'm still on the 10mb service, i've also asked a few people i know that live in my area (Bolton) to run a speedtest and they are also recieving upto 10mb. Is this just a trial or have they upgraded us earlier than expected for a change? I also wanted to know how i can recieve 10mb on my pc that's connected to the network via a wireless pci card. I currently recieve around 5-6mb on the wireless pc and the full 10mb on the wired pc. Do i need to change my router or do i just change the wireless card. I currently have a zyxel p320w router. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

The Zyxel P320W is an 802.11g device so you should be able to get upto 54Mbps. Check you've got the latest and greatest firmware and if you have, try moving the wireless PC closer to the router to see if it's the walls in your house that are knocking back your bandwidth.

While it is great that folks are getting these improvements to the service. This actually represents everything that is wrong with VM.

They are beavering away going for the headline speeds and so now some of the folk in this thread on 2meg are getting far quicker speeds than someone like me on 20meg because they won't improve the network in my area and it is oversubscribed. It really does make me angry. That anger isn't aimed at anyone getting the improved service of course.
