20 Meg broadband that I am on has been going slower and slower and now stuck at 400kbps. They have told me I need a new type modem, current one is the silver Ambit unit and is not compatible with the XL package they say.
Should receive it in a day or so but just wondered what they are on about.
Been getting 20Meg with this modem so whats changed?

Confused:confused:

I think they're moving the 20Mb onto a different docsis standard so some of the older modems are being replaced.

You might get a small black Ambit 256 Thread here (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12/33635403-ambit-256-modem.html)

We had our silver one swapped a while back.

The is a flash screen comes up on certain 20Mb accounts which tells us to replace the modem so nothing wrong with what the agent told you.

I have been on 20mg for at least 4 months in essex, uk.
It started brilliant with d/l speeds of approx 1.5mb per sec.
Now i'm lucky to get 400kb/s which i used to get faster on bt 8meg.
I have the small black Ambit 256 modem, i understand t/m but it's at all hours it maxes about 400kb/s.
I regularly speed test and says d/l is usually between 18000 and 19500, and u/l speed at about 700, which i think is brilliant, however when downloading, it maxes about 400kb/s, and upload no faster than about 70-80.
If i had hair i'd pull it out.
Any suggestions gratefully received, thanks in advance.

Look down the left hand side and click on Downstream and copy the info then do the same for Upstream but ignore the upstream burst.

Your power levels look quite normal Upstream may be a bit high but not outside normal operating parameters.

You will probably need to call Tech Support and they will be able to see if the are any issues on the uBR that you are connected to.

How are you downloading? Torrents, megaupload, newsgroups, email, normal sites?
What are you downloading with? Browser, download manager, torrent software?
Do you connect through a router?
