Watchdog on BBC 1 did a recent survey to find out which supermarket, is the Brits favourite.

They had approx 36,000 total voters and they won in the following order...

The watchdog results were as follows...

1) Waitrose/Ocado - 21 per cent
2) Sainsbury's - 19 per cent
3) Tesco - 15 per cent
4) Asda - 14 per cent
5) Morrisons - 10 per cent
6) Marks and Spencer - 9 per cent

Surprisingly, some of the bigger names like Tesco and Asda are way down in the favourite list...

So I thought, CF should do their own poll and see what the results should be...

Which is your favourite Supermarket and why? Have you switched recently and which Supermarket do you love to hate?

I just had an itch to post, Tesco for convenience when I pick SWMBO up from work.

I also frequent ALDI, Somerfield, ASDA and infrequently Morrisons and rarely COOP, LIDL and NETTO.

Aldi for preference - otherwise Tesco 'cos it is the nearest & I get clubcard points on my company mileage ;)

Tesco - they've always got what I want unlike my local cornershop where "sorry we haven't got any" is their motto and at the same time moans that people are choosing the 'big guns' over the smaller businesses.

As it's not multiple choice I decline to answer...mainly as just about every supermarket in that list gives me some products better than others

It was Somerfield but that's about to end in a few days due to the merger and closures :(. Morrisons and Sainsburys will take over now.

Seriously though Tesco's do fantastic Tiger rolls, Adsa does a gorgeous Cracked Pepper Chedder, Morrisons does nice stuffed breat of lamb and sainsbury has some excellent local cheeses... I use all of them about the same ...the ONLY one I use more is Co-Op (not on your list Mick :p:) purely due to the fact that they're 400meters away from me in the village....

Certainly be interesting to see what difference a year or so makes to the outcome :tu:

Yep, a year ago I would have said Morrisons (mainly as they were the ONLY supermarket south of watford gap that sold Mushy Peas) ;)

Not any more - I've closed it as people continuing to vote in that poll would make any comparisn with this one pretty pointless.....

I watched the program and I was quite interested in the results, and somewhat surprised.
Predominantly we shop at tesco, for no other reason than it is local (opposite side of our estate 1\2 mile walk or 1 mile in a car)
I find the quality of tesco own products slightly better than adsa but asda is slightly cheaper and 2.5 miles from home. Morrisons is on a par with tesco but 8 miles from home.
Aldi & Lidle are about 8 miles from home both offer cheap products not all of which sit well with my pallette.

So although we tend to use tesco for around 80% of our shopping its only through conveinence and I\we dont really have a favorite.

Tesco for weekly shop/branded products. Morrisons for Meat/Fish/fresh produce. Morrison's are miles better than Tesco for fresh stuff.

Lidl and, to a lesser extent, Tesco.

I voted Asda, as we do go there most often out of all those listed. I am always surprised that our shopping doesn't come to more than what it does at the till in Asda! *taps pocket* ;)

Sainsburys for us even though we have a massive Tesco close by and a smaller Waitrose. Can't seem to get on with Tesco and Waitrose is that bit more expensive. Sainsburys quality is very good and the prices not bad plus we can walk there so it's carbon friendly too. :)

All in how the question is worded.
Waitrose has always been a favourite for me because of the choice, staff, store layout & quality.
However I generally shop at Sainsburys because they are cheaper and I don't have to spend a fortune in fuel for the car (nearest decent sized Asda, Aldi or Tesco are 15 miles away).
Nevertheless I am considering Asda as they now deliver to our area. Really do not like Tesco.

Hmm.

I use ASDA the most, purely because it is both the closest and the cheapest of my local supermarkets.

However, I do hate the place, so wouldn't really class it as a "favourite".

ASDA and Morrisons are handiest for me but I prefer Tesco. ALDI is really good for a lot of stuff though especially the sliced cheeses.

Question is though which asda?? Airport or Dunstable?? I find the airport one a lot better with a lot more range in than the dunstabe one...Though for best choice there's a trip up the A5 to the MK one

I'm surprised to see Waitrose at the top as it is quite expensive.

I shop at Tesco and every now and then Sainsburys.

Tesco is just round the corner from me so it is convenient.

At the moment they do lovely mackeral fish with spices on the top for only 60p and it tastes lovely!

My favourite Supermarket was one in bodrum in Turkey. I got the weeks shopping for 40 quid. That included 5 bottles of spirits and 3 carltons of fags and grocerys.:D

ooh the MK one next to Ikea? I haven't been in there yet! Haven't been to the Dunstable one either, Mother in law prefers that one. I'm not impressed with the changes to the airport one :td: though I can still spend a good 2 hours + browsing the store!

I'd hardly say 3rd and 4th "way down the list"! personally, I like Waitrose. you get what you pay for I suppose.

btw, isn't the pole going to be slightly misleading? won't that really just tell us where people shop, regardless of where they would prefer to shop? I get the feeling most people will select where they actually shop.

I mainly use Tesco for staples but also buy certain special bits and pieces from Waitrose and Marks&Sparks.

Can't beat M&S smoked mackerel pate..

Just don't buy the cheap perfumes and men's frangrances.......Basically chemicals with water in a bottle....Unless you want to come out with a huge rash.

The best supermarkets I've been in are in France. The huge Géant Casino supermarkets are amazing around Christmas time. So many things you'd want to buy.

Morrisons is only 1/2 a mile away, so thats what we mostly use.

We also get a few bits from the local Co-op and I buy a specific type of crisps from Sainsbury (only they do them).
