Bedroom Furniture

Hi guys,

Wondered if anyone here could help me or knew of anywhere where I could look.

I am redecorating my Bedroom in an art deco style setting, it will more resemble an office than a bedroom really, the settings i'm going for is glossy black furniture, blue lighting etc.

The trouble is finding the units, I've searched high and low to find furniture thats like this....

But the trouble is the casing is wood coloured, I want a black casing with the glossy draws, and I can't find any anywhere.

Does anyone know of any places that do this style of furniture?

You will really be helping me out as I have to design the room and I can't design it until I see the dimentions of the items to go in it :mad:

Unfortunately original Deco pieces to fit the bill are horrendously expensive. Try this site using 'Black' in the search engine, as a starting point it may give you some more ideas.

The carcase is walnut, a beautiful veneer that mellows with time and becomes richer.

If your looking for black\dark carcase with gloss drw fronts your probably going to have to commission someone to make them as that will not be a std off the shelf product.

Unfortunately Ikea is no use to me, I'm putting a 32" HD flatscreen in my room, a 3/4" Bed, Couch, with blue LED lighting etc, the budget for this room is about £1500 and will have to stand the test of time.

I am already improvising with laminate worktop to cover all the draws and have a makeshift desk between them, but nothing on either of those sites shows what I am looking for, a glossy draw finish with a black casing.

This is frustrating me because if I got the draws I have seen, I would have to paint the casing that would be visible, and I don't want to have to do that.

Next - Thats exactly what I am looking for, theres only one problem, the drawers are 91 High yet the desk / table is 82 high.

If you can imagine a kitchen where all the units are the same hight with a top fitted flat on top, this is what i'm looking to do with my room. If I was to go with this furniture I would only be able to get 2 of the drawer units and have a top put between them to make a makeshift desk between them.

This is the problem i'm having with all furniture i find, there doesn't be a wide range of furniture in any style, let alone black / gloss. It's really frustrating :(

Could you work at a desk that was 91cm high? If you could maybe there is some way you could raise the desk off the floor the 9cms needed to level things up. Something added at floor level would not draw the eye and maybe that would be a simpler work around your problem of the differing heights. :shrug:

Which is what I am looking for combines with this other draw set I saw on another website, only thing i would have to do would be to cover the wood casing with black wood finish strips and hope for the best.

It offers a lot more choice for what I want, and its not that expensive, fingers crossed anyway.

As long as you have the patience several very thin coats of a high gloss finish varnish on top of your Black wood finish strips will give you an almost glass like finish. I used this technique on a couple of gold leaf and black painted items to reproduce the high gloss finish my client wanted. It was very effective but a bit time consuming.

Thanks for that Jo, It would be worth the effort to do it for the look i want.

Im not sure how i am going to cover the wood of the outer draws when i make the makeshift desk, this is going to be very visable. I wondered if they had sheets of laminate I could maybe cut and glue to the side, it wouldnt be glossy black maybe, but so long as its not wood coloured.

Just a thought but maybe you could investigate Kitchen suppliers. I'm sure I've seen some high gloss black units on the market. They possibly have sheets of laminate for the sides of units or maybe even draw fronts you could utilize.

Thanks Jo, That last link, the picture of the glossy kitchen is kind of the look i'm going for in a bedroom style, throw in some electric blue LED lighting, red carpet and pretty much have it.

That picture looks slightly too dark but the way i've designed it, at night it will look so chilled and stylish. Will have to give them a ring and see if they can offer me any assistance.

It should look really stylish when it's finished Barewolf and I would love to see how it turns out. The only thing that I keep thinking is that it will be a right finger print/dust magnet and you will be spending half of your time polishing it to keep it looking pristine. :D

hehe i didnt think of that, mind you, it will give me the motivation to clean it more than i do now (Looks at his falling to bits furniture).
