Hi there,

I hope someone could help me.

I'm currently trying to install an IP camera. All is set up on a local scale with 192.168.1.18 being its local ip address.

I'm trying to get my Internet Ip address so i can view it over the net.

All is set up with all port's forwarded correctly, but my problem is that the modem is showing an internet ip of 192.168.0.2. This should be something like 87.68..... but it's not.

Even when i connect the modem straight to my laptop it shows the default ip to 192.168.0.2. I have taken my camera and successfully got it to work at a friends house with the same setup but at mine it gives me this problem.

I have a netgear router.

Thanks

Sounds like a static ip set in the laptop.

Thanks for replying.

I've just checked and it doesn't have one.

I've also tried on 2 laptops.

Internet works fine but it's just this internet ip problem.

On your laptop go to the following website

http://www.ipchicken.com/

This should show you your internet facing IP.

Simon

The Internet IP Address in your edit is the one you need.

Yep just got that.. same IP as the modem is giving me.

When i enter it into the address bar it just loads and ends up going to google.

It's all configured correctly in the router as it worked at my friends house.

Driving me insane lol

What port are you forwarding to your IP Camera? As you would need to connect to http://<Mod Edit (Rob M)>:port number), eg http://<Mod Edit (Rob M)>:10000

Simon

It's using port 80.

I've removed the MAC address from post #3 and IP addresses from post #6 just to be on the safe side - if you do get this working you don't want all and sundry peering in on you :erm: :D

SimpleSimon

Having just reread your post it seems that your issue may be because your camera is set to 192.168.1.18 try changing this to 192.168.0.100 and then change your forward rule to point port 80 to this new ip.

Can you view the camera on the internal network?

Simon

Yes. I can view it through 192.168.1.18.

If your IP address is 192.168.0.2 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 then I cant see how you can connect to the camera if it is on 192.168.1.18 as this wouldn't connect unless it went via your router and if it went via your router then you should be able to connect from the internet.

This is what is baffling me aswell.. Its as if the modem has a mind of its own.

I think i'l give Virgin a call and tell see what they say.. might be a bad box or bad line.

Modem connects to the internet fine, connects just fine through your router.
I can see the Virgin rep sending you packing mate, but good luck with that.

On your laptop go to the following website

http://www.ipchicken.com/

That site gives me a nonsensical IP report. I suspect it may be confused by the Virgin proxy that I have set.

This one works correctly:

The modem only ever gives 2 sets of IPs, 192.168.100.XX or 82.XX.XX.XX (substitute 82 with 62, 77, 80 etc)
It has never given an ip addy of 192.168.0.XX
That's a router IP or some other device.

Yeh this is why i'm so stumped.

With my mums house router its a simple case of forwarding the ports or opening the DMZ up and it works through LAN and WAN.

But with mine it seems that it doesn't want too.

Nobody suggest the connection link at the top of the page for finding your IP?

Anyway, I would suggest putting the camera in the DMZ on the router. If ou do call Virgin Media remember to use the correct number: 0906 991 0001 though not strictly a PC issue PCHelp can help with router configuration.

I don't think its a router issue.. as i get this even when i plug the Cable Modem direct into my laptop.. Internet works fine but the main problem is getting the WAN ip to connect to my comp.. i did this test as its something i'm used to doing....

I downloaded WAMP Server.
Sent it live and made sure the Cable Modem was plugged directly into my laptop.
Now with the modem not going through a router, the WAN IP should just load straight to the WAMP home page located on my laptop.

but it doesn't, it just loads and goes to google. I then open CMD, and type ipconfig /all and look up the default IP which again should be a 87.68.... type of IP but it's not. It shows 192.168.0.2

Cheers,
Craig

But there is no router connected lol.. Now ya see why it's wrecking my head.

Its just cable modem to laptop.

I've tried everything, honestly i'm lost

What do you see if you do ipconfig /all
Could be you have more than one connection device in your machine, one static and one auto.

You can have your nic set to obtain ip automatically and at the same time have your wireless card set to static or even auto, hence the 192.168.0.2 if the router is still turned on.

@moaningmags - Wireless is turned off when i do this. Just through lan and the TCP/IP is set to obtain ip automatically.

@piggy - what is my i.p gives me a WAN IP.. But when i enter into the browser it just loads and then eventually goes to google search.

If I click connection at the top of the page it tells me

82-XX-X-XXX.cable.ubr01.uddi.blueyonder.co.uk

what does it give you?

brainz
22-02-2009, 23:45
I'm not at mine at the moment, i'm at my mums. Had to get away before the modem went through the window!

But the IP is: 86.2x.xx.xx

moaningmags
22-02-2009, 23:50
Thats the ip the modem is giving to whatever you have connected to the modem.
So where are you getting the 192 from?

Scrap the above, that's the ip your mum is getting.

brainz
22-02-2009, 23:54
When i go to what is my ip. It gives me the 86.2x.xx.xx

but when i type ipconfig /all it gives the default gateway as 192.168.0.2.

Also when i login and view the Virgin Modem settings it shows the 192.1..... ip address as being the main ip. Again this is when i am connecting directly from the modem to my laptop. I have tried 2 different laptops also.

Then something is screwed up. If you're using obtain ip automatically, you can't specify a default gateway and it will be very similar to your 86 ip. It can't be 192.

How do you view the modem pages? Should be 192.168.100.1
Which modem do you have? You only have to login to the Ambit modems, the username and password is root. If you're going to any other page and using any other login, then you're not connected directly to the modem.

Post the entire output from ipconfig, when you are at home and connected directly to the modem.

brainz
23-02-2009, 00:06
That ip i gave you was mine from my house. I had it saved in a notepad doc earlier

I'm using the 192.168.100.1 to login to my router with the default user/user combination it says.

@Joxer - i will do this tomorrow for you.

---------- Post added at 00:06 ---------- Previous post was at 00:04 ----------

Just to add.. My mums Modem Login is different to the one i have at home.

for instance at home i get more links at the top. And my login credentials is different.

Could this be it.. could i have an older modem?
