Traffic management?

An example of how this works is that if a broadband size M customer downloaded 500MB of data between 4pm and 9pm, their speed would be temporarily managed with their download speed set to 1Mb and their upload speed to 128Kb for a 5 hours.

Ok thanks, i doubt i have downloaded 500mb between 4-9 as i dont have the speed anyway and i have spent nearlly 5 hours trying to set up my wireless, Also is seems i am getting less than 1mb, than i am 2mb, when i do get the full speed its only for like 10 mins and it drops again, anymore advice on this?

Try changing the wireless channel if it's dropping wirelessly, if that's not it, can you give us more info?

So you have the modem connected directly to the computer via ethernet cable?

If you try downloading a file from the link below, what is your transfer rate?

Does traffic managment still count if you have downloaded 500mb last night? not really sure how it works.

Your speed is half what it should be but slightly more than being traffic managed.

http://www.virginmedia.com/help/traffic-management.php

explains traffic management and what you did last night doesn't matter tonight.
If you start the download of two files, does the 119 split over the 2 files or do you get 119 on both?

I have just tried and it is roughly about 60 between them both, i aint downloaded nothin today at most i have probably downloaded in the last 5 hours about 50mb.

Then you need to speak to tech support if it's halving the speed when you open a 2nd file. They will be able to tell you if traffic managed, or if it's an issue in your area.
If you're told it's an issue they are aware of, ask for the fault remedy number and an estimated fix time.

Ok thanks for your time, I will give them a call tomorrow because i need a wireless router aswell as my old one doesnt work, does the virgin routers have a special modem port? Because my old one has a DSL port.

You're welcome and yes, Netgear router, has 5 ethernet ports, the one nearest the aerial is where the ethernet cable from the modem connects too, and usually yellow in colour.

Getting the same problem in the Brighton area, our 2Mb connection has been at 1Mb speeds 24/7 here for at least a few days. No matter what time i use the connection to try and download something whether it be the middle of the day, the evening, or 7am in the morning I can't get speeds above 120Kb/s
