I'd appreciate some advise about my connection speed please.

WebSTAR DPX100 and NETGEAR WGT624 Wireless Router.

Can this modem handle the 20Mb connection.

My best ever speed was 9276 kb/s download and 717kb/s upload.
That suggests a 10Mb connection or am I missing something.

I've tested without the router and there's no difference.

That modem can't do 20meg, it can do 14 or 15 though, a call to tech support and they'll tell you what tier you're on and if on 20mb they'll post you out a new one.

Thanks. It's supposed to be a 20MB connection. That's what I'm paying for, via the triple XL package.

Like I say, speedtest.net is usually in the 8000 kb/s range at all times. It didn't seem right and I've had a look at the VM tips for a 20MB connection (http://www.virginmedia.com/help/broadband/using/20mb-broadband-optimisation.php).

I'll get in touch with the technical bods.

Cheers for that link Moldova.
Never noticed it myself or I would have used it.
Anyway, have now completed the form and a new modem will be dispatched soon.

Thanks to both for the help.

Quick update.

Received a new modem from VM . :)

Tests with modem only confirm 20MB connection

Tests with NETGEAR WGT624 v3 router = never above 10MB.
averages @ 9MB
Obviously this router can't handle 20MB. In fact it looks like it struggles to handle 10MB.

Looks like a new router is required.

Try a firmware upgrade from Netgear first.

Sorted!!

The router automatically checked for new firmware
It also had a link for a manual check for new firmware

In both cases they always came back negative, no firmware update available.

Today I went directly to NETGEAR site and on to downloads for my router.
Lo and behold there are several firmware updates.
I downloaded and installed the latest (V2.0.26_1.0.1NA) rebooted went to speedtest.net and all is hunky dory .:hyper:

Thanks for the help and suggestions everyone. Appreciated.
