Cable Modem power off?

When I close my computer down at night, should I leave the modem and router switched on? I ask because I had a major problem this morning due to the modem not receiving the IP address?

I turn off my modem and router every night and never had an issue getting connected in the morning.

I hadn't either, until yesterday.

I only turn mine off if I'm leaving the country, otherwise it's on 24/7.
