Hello folks,

I'm having gradually more persistent problems with my Broadband connection. I have a NTL 250 modem (Ambit U10C018) and I use my connection 90% for gaming online. I use an 3ft ethernet cable and a Belkin F5D7231-4 Router which is completely default settings as far as I know.

I'm paying for 10Mb broadband from Virgin Media and I am connected to the Renfrew exchange.

My connection seems to be really bad for various online FPS games, where for some reason gradually over the last few month I've been able to hit less and less (i.e. I'm shooting at something and the shots don't register) and also I am getting more and more timeouts on both my gaming and browsing websites in general.

Every evening between 10pm - 2am my router will just randomly stop any throughput. I'll get kicked off any servers I'm using, and I won't be able to use any other programs using the broadband, or even view any webpages. There will still be sync, just no data being sent or recieved (no flashing lights on the modem) and it will resolve itself after 15 to 30 minutes.

I've aslo noticed that a speed test will show me at any time at either close to 10000Kbps or close to 2000Kbps download speed, with upload around 400Kbps, like so...

I looked at my modem interface and got the following settings for upstream and downstream:-

I wonder if anyone could possibly look as all these details and point out anything that looks like it might not be right?

I can try provide any other details I can on request.

Many thanks in advance and hoping someone will be able to help.

Your upstream power level is borderline, although the issue sounds more like high utilisation or signal to noise ratio problems.

Ah, so I guess the problem would be the same for anyone connected to the Renfrew exchange then?

Not always as even your neighbour could have very different results running the same test, the are many factors that can affect your connection.
