Had a tech visit 2 weeks ago after page's wouldn't load. I explained the problem on the support news group and they booked a visit then next day. Appartently someone had 'tidied up my local box'... He put a thing on the coax near the modem (http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/bfev41oRCFoAZnggCpq_7Q?feat=directlink) and fixed the problem in the street box.

Maybe Virgin is better than NTLworld nee East Coast Cable.

That's an attenuator. It changes the signal dynamics to stabilise your connection. Glad to hear you're back online. Mind and update your services, by the way - I wouldn't have thought you'd still be on 4M...

Probably the fact that your profile information beneath your avatar still says 4Mb :)

Your info on services may be `NTL Phone, 4M Cable Modem, SKY digital'. Time to update your information in User Control Panel.

That is not an attenuator its an isolator :erm:

This is what you will find inside the white box that the installer should put on your wall inside where the cable comes into the property. Nothing more than a type of surge protector really.

You are entirely correct. I think my brain was working backwards. They both end with 'ator', so I was close...
