i just upgraded from 10mb to 20mb by upgrading it online on virgin media website. I had to select preferred dates on when i would like the installation take place and was wondering does that mean someone is going to come round to install it? or do they just upgrade it through the system?

the modem i got must be bout 8 years old, had it when i was with telewest then virgin took over.

They'll probably need to replace your modem if it's that old. If you're concerned you can always call 150 and check the upgrade order has been received.

8 years you WILL need new modem, customer services now get a flash on customers account if they need a new modem to handle the current speed they have

If you have a Motorola SB4100 or SB3100 you will need a new modem as these can't do 20meg. If thats the case you'll need to contact customer service and they should arrange for a new one to be sent out in the post to you.

The SB4200 and beyond are fine for 20meg.

The SB4100 is OK on 10Meg, but on 20Meg service only you'll get around 14Mb/s. So it needs replacing for an upto date one.

When you spoke to them, did they start off by saying:-

It's time to play the music
It's time to light the lights
It's time to meet the Muppets on the Muppet Show tonight.

Forgot to mention. Don't ring and get another Muppet, post on VM cable support newsgroup and tell them of the situation and they should sort it out for you. It'll save a lot of time on the phone.
