Since yesterday my 20mb has been all over the place.
If i re-boot the modem i can sometimes get 2.34mb/sec for a couple of mins, after which the speeds drops and drops to about 200k/sec.

Ive had a rock solid 20mb for the past 4yrs until yesterday, newsgroup tech says theres no problems on the network in my area.
Ive got a NTL200 modem which is 4yrs old, maybe its on its way out?..

What do these power levels look like?.

Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Frequency : 298750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM256
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps12increment17
Downstream Receive Power Level : 8.6 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 28.8 dB

Upstream Channel ID : 3
Upstream Transmit Power Level : 57.0 dBmV
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream Frequency : 45808000 Hz
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

upstream power, downstream SNR are both at cautious levels - enough to cause the issue specified. pretty sure the downstream frequency is locked at the wrong value aswell.

Downstream frequency is fine, modem is locked to one of the new DOCSIS 3 downstreams.

Downstream SNR is however not marginal nor cautious, it's not good enough for a 256QAM EuroDOCSIS downstream and upstream transmit is too high for 16QAM upstream, both of which will cause speed issues.

Cheers, saying my modem is locked to one of the new DOCSIS 3 downstreams, my modem is a old ntl200 home, do you think this could be causing the problem also?. Have I been put onto the new DOCSIS 3 network?

Ive got a new modem on order so will see what the speeds are like then, and if they are still bad ill get a tech out for the power levels.

Engineer has been out today, replaced my modem and sorted out the transmit levels.
Upstream is now 48.5 instead of 57 and downstream is now 40 instead of 30

All this has sorted out my speed issues and running back at full 20mb speed now :)
