Hi had broadband installed XL option 2 weeks ago.I getting very slow pings and lots of packets loss. Ping to www.virginmedia.com (http://www.virginmedia.com) giving me times around 80-200 ms and to 50 % packets loss. Please help me.

as the ping is more stable at the end I'm going to assume you're on WiFi?

yes i`m but there is no difference on cable. Sometimes ping to virginmedia is 43ms sometimes is 500ms. I wrote to newsgroup about this issue and they saying there is some works going in my area, and they will try to fix this asap.
What real download speed should i get? I assumed 2,5 Mb/s? Am I right?

Closer to 2.4 with overheads.

Have you tried taking the router out of the equation and hooking directly to the modem? Apologies if you've already tried.

Off course i did, thats was first thing i did. Can you tell mi is there any problems in logs from my modem anything unusual.

www has been garbage all weekend. I couldn't even connect from about 4pm till about 8pm. Seems to have gone OK now.
