hi,my problem is this...when watching live streaming content from websites,my connection stops, within a few seconds and 5 minutes,it's fine when surfing sites with pictures and text, and even watching vids on youtube.

my modem is NTL250,which i've had for nearly 4 years on 2meg bb.

I can reset my modem the usual way,and it works again, but will stop connecting if i use streaming sites such as watching snooker on BBC website.

modem configuration:

Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 3
Upstream Frequency : 25800000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QPSK
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 37.0 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 0
Downstream Frequency : 586750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM256
Downstream Symbol Rate : 6952 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps12Increment17
Downstream Receive Power Level : 0.0 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 37.7 dB

hope these figures help somebody,,because they are absolute gobbledygook to me;)

any advice gratefully received.thx.

I cant say for sure but I think there is something wrong with your downstream frequency, I am sure it is supposed to be 33.1 exactly and yours is 58.675.

I have just tried the BBC iplayer for the first time and streams perfectly but i have got more than enough bandwidth to spare. The only thing i can think of is that you are saturating your connection because you are looking at downloading 130k/sec minimum for medium quality encodings and more for hdd so there is a chance your connection is saturated trying to keep up and it is pausing the video when it cant. The BBC iplayer is the same as youtube in terms of what it is trying to do and the reason why you don't have a problem with youtube is because the file sizes and quality probably arent half that of what is provided on proper sites like the BBC so you arent downloading as much and have bandwidth to spare.

hi G.M,i think i grasp what you are saying, how would i go about changing the downstream settings(can i do that?)or do i need a "visit" from an engineer.
Why would this just suddenly start?got me confused?!
Still awaiting a reply from virgin, won't be holding my breath.

Ive only seen 58675000mhz on QAM64 though im sure someone will correct me ;) unusual to see the downstream power at exactly 0 though, not that thats a bad thing :p: Power levels fine by the way.

I wasn't going to comment about the exact 0 because I know it is within the range and I didn't want to put my foot in it :) He is on QAM 256 though and not 64.

The best thing you can do (is definitely not ring the indian call centers) is to post your problem on the VM newsgroups explaining the problem and paste your power levels so the tech dudes can look at it. If anything is wrong you can pretty much guarantee they'll fix it.

yup, i meant all the stuff you posted in your initial post, that way they have got all the information they need so diagnose your problem. I also forget to tell you in include your name, email address, account number and anything else which can help them identify you but you probably did that anyway.

I have same issue, streaming starts, stops for 3 minutes, starts again ETC. Problem started approx 3 weeks ago,
Thought problem might be BBC ?

My Readings are

Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 182
Downstream Frequency : 402750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM256
Downstream Symbol Rate : 5360.537 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps32Increment4
Downstream Receive Power Level : -2.1 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 42.1 dB

Not used Virgin Media newsgroups, as last time i never got a reply, (But i do not relly know how to post, so might have done it wrong)

All help appreciated.
