View Full Version : When did Gateshead UBR get 10mbps on 'L'

Hi,

I spotted that my 'L' broadband had not been upgraded to 10mbps, I ran a few tests over the last few weeks at various sites and never got more than 4000mpbs. So I called tech support and after 'ruling out' the router and spy ware (BS IMHO) the guy 'boosted' my signal and voila, 10mbps.

I'm naturally suspicious and this got me thinking that they hadn't upgraded my line and that since the local exchange got upgraded I have only been receiving 40% of the service I have been paying for simply because I hadn't asked for it. Has anyone else noticed this?

So I'd like to know how long I have been getting 40% for. All I can find is that the roll out was completed on 29 Sept 08. I asked their support person, he referred me to Customer Support who said that Tech Support are more likely to know and to contact Head Office for the data. Does any one have the date for the Gateshead upgrade?

When was the last time you rebooted your modem before the call to tech support?

It was 10MB when I opened my account in August.

You didn't need to 'ask' for the upgrade, it was just a case of restarting the modem, so you won't get any money back.

Probably around Christmas when I got a Wii and had bother getting it online.

I guess I'd have known if I used their webmail service.

Still if tech support can reboot the modem remotely, as you say they did, why haven't they yet? More to the point why didn't I think of that?

Sounds like a refund (£10 offered so far) is worth a shot, especially since I am planning on dropping TV & phone for FreeSAT/iPlayer & Skype.

Doubt you will get much more offered. The 4Mbit to 10Mbit was a free upgrade.

You got a free upgrade and didn't bother to call for months, your lucky to get any form of 'refund'. Take what you were given and run mate.

Where you running speedtests everyday to see if you was only getting 4Mb plus what was upload when you tested this, put simply if I worked in Virgin you would get nothing it was a free upgrade meaning costing you nothing, Tech support rebooted your modem fair enough maybe your UBR was overloaded like Virgin do and they did a upgrade.
