Hey Guys.

I'm new here, so I'm pretty much a newb to all this, but anyway...I've been having this problem with my modem and it's irritating me, so I figured I'd come here and speak to you guys.

I'm using an Ambit 100 Modem (the squared, NTL, grey one) and I have a 2MB connection.

Every 5 to 10 minutes, my modem ALWAYS! disconnects and re-connects and just keeps continuing to do it. I've been messing with the wires because the guy came out the other day and changed the socket types and left behind one but I haven't did anything to it until now.

It was a FLD5W (8dB)...so I fitted in right there, just before I posted this and everything seems fine, it's not disconnected...YET! but I just wanted you guys to see my Modem Configuration Status and tell me if everything is ok since I've fitted this FLD5W socket.

Type : Ambit ETH/USB Combo Cable Modem
Cable modem : Ambit Cable Modem
Downstream Receive Power Level : -7.05 dBmv
Downstream SNR : 32.48 dB
Upstream Transmit Power Level : 59.00 dBmv

Thanks guys.

'Upstream Transmit Power Level : 59.00 dBmv'

You need a technician to resolve this as it's too high.

OK, It just disconnected....ARGH!

Hello MoaningMags.

Do you have any idea what It should normally be at?

Ranging between 34 - 56
But it depends on area, platform etc,
Chances are it's going over 59.00 causing you to lose connection.

Yeah I thought that.

Is there anything I could do, apart from calling the techies?....I thought this FLD5W (8dB) filter would change something but I'm guessing not, any other filters that I could use to fix this issue?

I think, not sure but think, attenuators can be used to increase or decrease the power levels.
It could be that yours has increased the power level, what's the power level without the attenuator?

Downstream Receive Power Level : 3.07 dBmv
Downstream SNR : 26.49 dB
Upstream Transmit Power Level : 61.00 dBmv

This is what I have when I remove it.

That's worse, you def need a tech visit.

haha yeah I thought that too lol.

So see if I call the techies, will they just come out and install a new attenuator?

Either that or mumble something about passing it up to networks or overheating RF amps.

Or they might even just fix it. :)

They should find out what's causing the problem instead of just fitting another attenuator. It could be the modem but I doubt it, could be the cabling from wall to modem or it could be the cabling from street to house. They really should investigate it all.

Hopefully.

Well MoaningMags, thanks for your time and you've been a great help to me mate, thanks alot!

I have same problems with no access, everything including connection lights on modem are ok but no net access.Ive been onto vm for last month they gave me new modem but no change. Now vm say there is a problem but they don't know what it is.The disconnection lasts between 10 seconds to a minute, sometimes i reboot modem.Ive been with vm for 3yrs here and never had any problems before.I'm on 20meg and ive tried a couple off pcs but still same problem.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that power level is very high. Tried posting on the newsgroups?

Hi,

if you check out the "leicester broadband connection problems" thread you will find that anyone with connection issues and Home 100/250 modems (ie like your ambit 100) who have an engineer visit are having the modems replaced at the drop of a pin and everything's OK again.

These modems no longer meet the standards requirement of the network.

Moan and get an engineer out, get a new modem rest easy again :D
