What is the final specs for the upload rate on the official 50mbit? Is it 1.5mbit or 1.75mbit?

Both upload and download are slightly overcapped to provide closer to the advertised speeds even with overheads. Upstream is at 1.75Mbit, downstream is at 52 - 55, can't remember off the top of my head but I'm sure a gentleman with the service will be able to comment.

If VM haven't disabled SNMP on the new modems you'll be able to use DOCSDIAG to get all the lovely information on it.

downstream is 52 I think last time I checked anyways

Thanks for the info. I am just glad that you can actually theoretically get 50mbit down with upload rate not being a major issue with regards to ack packets. :-)

id like to see the results of a large ftp up to, and down from the public VM ftp servers and web space servers rather than/as well as the speed tester sites, and external ftp oc.

I wish VM got 50Mb downstream and 50Mb upstream (both) for £30 a month !!! (no long term contract with one off fee of £50 for a new modem with 'N' wireless for your to kept)

I guess that's my wishful thinking !!!

sounds positively awful (forcing people to have a wireless network). Who do you think they are? BT?

Or just log into 192.168.100.1. The 50Mbit modems don't need a username or password ;)

Don't know how detailed the stats are though, if it's CrippleVision there's not much point :)

Virgin have a 50mb Speed test page they've set up for the trial, they sent me the link in one of the emails / questionaries i need to fill in. Here's the results for the upload of a 100mb file.

Upload #1
------------------------------------------------------------------
File size transferred : 100.0 MB (104857600 bytes)
Total time taken : 533.0 seconds (532997 milliseconds)
Throughput : 196.0 KB/sec [Kilobyte-per-second]
= 0.2 MB/sec [Megabyte-per-second]
= 1568.0 Kbps [Kilobit-per-second]
= 1.57 Mbps [Megabit-per-second]

Should work. Unless they changed it to another IP

Sadly, the first thing I'll do when I get my new modem is run > cmd > ipconfig for the default gateway.

So I can have a peek at fancy stats.
