There's been a rumour going around for a while now that SG:U would have a "big name" cast as the lead... who would then be killed off in the pilot, leaving the young & inexperienced team to manage on their own.

I thought that was Atlantis ;)

http://www.gateworld.net/news/2009/04/sky-one-picks-up-stargate-universe/

U.K. broadcaster Sky One has picked up the rights to air Stargate Universe, Variety reports

Yay!

The new deal struck with MGM gives Sky One the non-exclusive rights to Video On Demand and “download-to-own” for the entire Stargate catalog, Variety said.

Boo - No Stargate on Virgin VoD then

They don't show the other series on Sky3 so I assume they won't.

I'm pretty sure I've seen them put Prison Break and Bones on quite a few times.

Sure they will, eventually.

Stargate SG-1 series 9 and 10 were made in 2004-2006, and they've NEVER shown it on Sky Three at all since it's been a DTT channel. Stargate Atlantis has been out since 2004 and that's not seen anything except Sky 1 and 2. It will never come to Sky 3 while Sky keep shafting their DTT audience with sub-standard programming. Which is why I've downloaded the 140 Stargate (Atlantis) episodes they have never shown on Sky 3 and am in the process of converting them to DVD so my parents can watch and enjoy them.

Sky are money-thieving barstools, and nothing short of showing SG-1 or Atlantis on Sky 3 will make me change my opinion of them.

They put the odd Bones episodes on Sky 3, but no Prison Break, no 24, no Battlestar Galactica etc, which is a shame because I'd actually watch them if they were on Sky 3. It's tactics like these which make piracy so prevalent of TV shows. And production companies wonder why people use BitTorrent for TV shows......

Give that man a see-gaaar! Nail. Head. Smacked.

It was even more true when Virgin & Sky had their fallout removing Sky from the Virgin packges.

I love a good rant against Sky most days. ;)

Ooh 'eck, hang on a second....

Non-exclusive meaning they don't have to keep it for themselves. IMO it'd be in their best interests to make it available on Virgin's VOD - bigger audience that way. :)

Non-exclusive meaning they can't keep it for themselves. It means they can show it on their own service, but MGM can also sell it to other VOD providers if it wishes. There's nothing to stop Virgin approaching MGM and also buying non-exclusive VOD rights, if it wants to.

I would have thought Atlantis was more like DS9 - an outpost at the end of a worm hole to another galaxy.

Well having seen the premier, my fears of the "dumbed down" Stargate early reports told us Universe was going to be of have been dispelled.

Really promising start :D

Really good start and its a lot darker and more grown up than the previous incarnations.

Its also taken a few pointers from Galactica with the handheld camera thing.

What an excellent start.
Loving the fact not everone is getting along and they are squabbling.
Also a bit confused I thought Lou diamond phillips was going to be a regular but from what I saw it didn't look like he got on the destiny, are we only going to see him in flashbacks?

Why couldn't they have use one of the remote controled camera things to push the button on the inside of the shuttle pod as eliah seemed to be contoling it ok?

In an interview with DS he said he was only a guest star for this season.

Wasn't that because he only had boxer shorts on though?

Probably needs the ancient gene to activate the switches.

I watched the episode last night and they need to start adding some action. The plot last night was two people go out to bring back a snowball. One person falls down a hole, but gets back out again. Some bugs start drinking the water, but get sent through the stargate and everything is ok again. I hope the storyline starts getting better soon.

The week before they were on a desert planet all sun no water, next week no sun no ice, what could it be, action ? naaaaaaaa.

This programme is rubish.

Not enough dead aliens eh?

Survival under extreme conditions not enough..

Well I'm sure some FX ridden, poorly written, overloud crap will be along soon..

And when are they going to get the silent explosion in space thing right?

I gotta say I find it a bit so-so. It's a great concept but there's no spark. I find I don't give a damn about any of the characters. :(
