Hey guys!

Tried searching and couldnt find any similar problems (unfortunatly for me!)

Basically:

My setup

PC --wireless --> Netgear router -- ethernet --> NTL: ambit (i think) modem --> internet

When i try to visit certain websites
-used to be bbc.co.uk, that seems to be fine now
-facebook.com (although this is much better since summer)
-downloading using bbc iplayer download manager
-using p2p filesharing

the MODEM suddenly gives me an IP address of 192.168.100.3

The modem does not appear to restart at any point and lights flash as normal on the box.

This only seems to happen on certain sites/applications and has been going on for years now (but was masked by another problem).

Would appriciate any help!

The modem will give a 192.168.100.x ip when it is offline, it take it this is the IP showing on the router config page? You sure the lights are OK? the SYNC READY lights should be on solid, not flashing.

Downstream SNR may be a bit low - need to check what is required on exNTL.

According to the stick post above SNR is too low for QAM256 - looks like you might need a tech.

all the lights are as normal when the issue occurs i can confirm.

the ip is showing on the router, that is correct.

I think we had a tech a couple of years ago... i think they re layed the cable between the road and my house...

would giving tech another call?

i used to get this now and then, the router woudl give 192.168.100.x it only ever happened when the modem was offline, if you reboot the modem what happens?

rebooting the modem normally works and i gain internet connectivity... also "renew"ing my connection on my router works sometimes too...

Try changing the router to auto connect if it isn't and to not auto connect if it is. Worth ago. Do you get the same issue connected direct to the modem?
