I pay for a prenium account on rapidshare does downloading on that will get me the virgin letter since I am paying for the service?
Also my friend told me it does not matter anyways as they stopped sending the letters out ages ago as it was only a 10 weeks trial?

It depends how much you download, and what you are downloading.

So I am right to say the trial isnt over? I am downloading music videos my friends made, and a few things here and there. I have never recieved a letter before as I presumed I was not doing anything wrong.

I seriously doubt you'll get any letter, regardless of how much you download through RapidShare or any other File Hosting websites, I'm trying to be very, very honest here aswell.

Not likely, as far as I can tell they where only monitoring torrents.

Paying for the service just gives you better access and speeds on their site. If you are downloading copyrighted material as a paying member it is still illgeal.

In the event you are caught you will get a warning letter. Do it again and get caught and who knows what they'l do, probably start with cutting off your Internet.
I wouldnt worry about it if you use it for the odd download or two or if the stuff you are downloading is legal.

I think they focus more on the more hardcore downloaders downloading gigabytes constantly.

I wouldn't worry about it dude, last month i downloaded over 500gb and I was expecting to have a letter about how much i downloaded but i havent heard anything from them.

Which letter? The one about traffic management if you download a lot of anything, or the one about downloading copyrighted material?

---------- Post added at 23:28 ---------- Previous post was at 23:25 ----------

If they are music videos your friend made in their entirety - ie wrote and performed music and recorded all video and it contained original material (e.g. it is not a recording of a concert) that that is OK and you only have to worry about letter 1.

tbh i was expecting one of both :) I was definitely expecting one about the huge amount of data i had downloaded because i had heard they send them out for amounts around 500gb. I wasn't too sure about the copyright stuff because there is no way they should know what I am downloading anyway (not that i was downloading anything which i shouldn't be :) )

I thought this letter sending was all part of a trial and a 10 week one at that? Or am I getting this wrong? I guess this is what Peer Guardian is for lol

Nah not really. I got one for downloading too much (is my neighbour stealing my connection) but no I don't. I downloaded terrabytes literally, it's the safest one as it offers SSL downloads.

Why shouldn't they? They're Virgin Media's wires, they can tell what's going through them ;)

Premium Account members can download more data than users of the free service. Currently, a Premium Account allows the download of 2.66 Gigabyte (2.660.000.000 Byte) per day. it changes from time to time. check jdownloader.org for rapidshare server news.

ive gone over my limit in the past and never been sent a letter. i just get throttled speeds.

Holy crap RS has gone downhill. 2.66 gb a day? It used to be like 10gigs a day..

Probably because we get 50Gb. Or, i have 50Gb showing on my total no matter what i do...

Stabhappy

if I remember correctly you can download 80gb a month, the 2.66 is just what you can get assuming the billing period is 30 days.

I never used to have a limit on my old account, now I only get 2.66Gb a day on my new account which is pointless for me as I'm not the only person that uses it...

They banned one of my old accounts, apparently for "illegal" activities...

I never did get a straight answer to my first question. I thought the sending letters thing/etc was part of a 10 week trial which is now over?

I'd be downloading things too if my connection actually worked properly.

The way I see it I pay for a 20mb service and I should be able to download at that speed 24/7/365 if I wanted to. Even if that takes me up to 1000TB per month. Everything else is false advertising.

Truly unlimited data limits, as you requested.

i have been looking at that as well, I am curious to know how much something like 30*10 costs or 30*5. I would love to have a dedicated line all to myself with some proper upload speed.
