hi folks, for the past 2 days my internet has been very sluggish, sometimes even refusing to open basic websites. every computer in the house is the same, i've tried resetting the modem etc but to no avail, also i aint been downloading anything of late so it shouldnt be a speed cap, take a look at my speedtest results;

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2008/12/48.png (http://www.speedtest.net)

strange! for 20MB XL VM,

any suggestions? tried phoning VM up but they were as useful as a chocolate teapot.

As usual, I have to recommend connecting the modem direct to 1 computer and test again, if it's still the same call back to tech support and don't get off the call until you have a definitive answer.

:welcome:

- and when you have the modem connected direct, try this speed test

http://www.speed.io/index_en.html

rather than the speedtest.net one, which in my opinion is unreliable & misleading...

Login to your modem (http://192.168.100.1/)
Username: root
Password: root
Gather the information from the downstream and upstream pages.

Hold the Windows button on your keyboard and press R
Type "cmd" and click OK
At the DOS prompt that appears typeping bbc.co.ukGather the results
Then typetracert bbc.co.ukGather the results

Take that information to the virginmedia.support.broadband.cable newsgroup (http://www.virginmedia.com/customers/newsgroups/). They'll sort you out.

xocemp, you missed the last line of your tracepath, I prefer traceroute and tcptraceroute though they require root priveledges.
