Has anyone tested ambit 255/256 modems on VM to see how many tcp connections they can handle before they start to die? I'm sure this is also limited to the VM infrastructure in the area they're on, but I was wondering if anyone had tried benchmarking them?
www.speed.io appears to test this as can be seen in the 'new speed test' thread.

id be interested in seeing someone performing one of these tests using a Virgin Media Netgear wireless router as they tend to get flooded easily to stop peer to peer.

**Wishing cable had that kind of upload speed.**
On a separate note, ADSL is rock solid for online gaming; Cable not so...

You need to change that statement to MOST ADSL suppliers are rock solid for online gaming; MOST cable areas not so AT THE MOMENT.
I've tested at friends houses: Virgin ADSL, Sky, Tiscali, AOL and Orange all rubbish for gaming (although Sky have introduced fastpath as an option now, which has helped them. But 30ms ping to UK servers is still rubbish however stable). I thought my latency was bad when I was having problems on cable until I went and tested elsewhere. All Entanet resellers and Bethere (not O2. As no fastpath option available, eventho on same equipment) are good IMO.
As for cable: If you would have asked me from Oct 07 - Aug 08 I would have agreed with you. But it's nearly back to normal service now, like I had for 8 years before Oct 07.
Yup i would pretty much agree with you there as i have an entanet connection going through titanadsl and gaming on that is amazing and when i ping servers is get between 15-25ms on virgin can be between 13-115ms which is not very stable.
