if your connection is 3 megabits and 8bit make 1 byte (which is your file sizes).

In short, if you have got a 3mbit connection you should expect to download at a maximum speed of (3000 bits/8) = 375 kilobytes per second which is confusing because your speed test is triple that which makes me think you actually have a 10mbit connection.

Just as thousands of grams make kilograms, lots of kilobytes make megabytes so 929kbytes is the same as 0.91mbytes just that the unit is different, like 900 meters is 0.9kilometers.

I dont know where you have got 3mb from. 929kbytes/sec is close enough to 1mbyte/sec so i think you are on a 10mbit connection. If you mean you should be downloading at 3 megabytes per second then you should have a 24mbit connection (24/8 = 3). Who is your isp? Be?

They don't do a 3Mb cable. From the speed test you're probably on 10Mb which is the recently upgraded 4Mb.

Post the operational config page from 192.168.100.1 and we'll be able to tell you exactly what speed the modem is set to.

Your actually recieving 1mbps instead of 3 (are you on adsl? is that what your provider has said you can recieve)

General you have mixed your bits and bytes up

i don't think so dude, it sounds fine to me

yes dude your wrong i am afraid kbps and KBps are different things 0.91mbps = 116 which is 1 megabit 3mbps = 384 KBps which he is not getting.

i may have got my capitols mixed up whivh is why i made a point of saying kilobits and bytes so he understood. I dont know where you have got 116 and 384 from because he has neither. If he is download at 929 kilobytes/sec he is on a 10mbit connection.

He says himself what he's getting in both formats. He is getting 0.91Mbps on his connection, and he says he should be getting 3Mbps. That is under 1/3 of the speed he should be getting.

The next question is does your internet come through as ADSL or Cable?

You're already converted Kilo bits (929) to Meg bits (0.91mbps) and if you're on a 3mb line (?), you're got just under third of the download speed.

If you're on about what's displayed in your Internet Browser when downloading a file. As the browser will display the transfer rate in KB/s (kilo Bytes per second) you'll be looking at a figure of 116 KB/s

by far the easiest way to convert bits (b) and bytes (B) is to google it,
just type the following into the google search box and hit enter:

929kbps to kBps

and google calculator says:
116.12500 kBps

As for the 3mb connection, who are you with Virgin Media Cable or ADSL through a phone line

you need to run a proper test to ascertain your speed anyway.
It is clearly catalogued on this very forum and all over the place that speed tests are not worth the time you look at them

you still do not have a true picture of how many bits bytes megs bobs sods or whatever your getting

Just to update everyone, pauja has done some speed tests and the long and short of it is that he/she is supposed to be on a 2mbit connection and and he/she is only get half of it, 1mbit down and 70kbit up.

Well the download figure suggests that the connection is STM'd, but the upload of 70kb/s is a little off the STM figure of 128kb/s. I would retest at the start of the day, then if it's still the same there's a problem somewhere and peruse further.

I would get the connection checked by newsgroup support first. They should be able to tell you if STM has or is being applied.
