Hello!

I am unable to connect to a particular web site (www.tiscali.co.uk).
It just disappeared thursday evening. I am able to connect to everywhere else i need to.

I tested with 1 PC directly connected to my modem (Motorola Surfboard 5100) to rule out my router - no change.

I tried tracert an here are my results (going through my router):

Tracing route to www.tiscali.co.uk [212.74.99.30]
over a maximum of 10 hops:

So after the 6th hop it just dies. Is this a problem with a Virgin Media machine on the network or something beyond???

I was able to reach the site ok from work and typing the url into
http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ says the site is up.

Any help would be appreciated.

BTW I am in the B71 (Sandwell/West Bromwich area)

Regards,

Gerbilus.

My Parents are also getting this (since Tuesday) to access the server we use for email - it's not Tiscali...

I can access it fine on my VM connection though.

I'd love to know if anyone has any advice!

Cheers

Mark

I'm using Firefox browser and Open DNS (www.opendns.com).

Not sure if that's any help at all - interesting that mine's timing out as well but even being less than 15 miles or so from you the routing seems quite different...

try plugging the PC directly into the modem & forcing a new IP address.... it's just worked for me

---------- Post added at 13:48 ---------- Previous post was at 12:25 ----------

It was my server blocking the IP address - I guess the same has happened with you

Cheers m0rk,

Still no good though :-(

Sorry for long delay in post but I had a busy day (replaced the clutch in my car!)

Think I am going to sleep on this one for now - look at it again tomorrow.
Still I need to get something sort or my I will have a backlog of emails to sort out!

Any ideas for a reason/solution for this welcome.

Regards,

Gerb.

I've got problems reaching lots of sites at the moment that I know are working

I fixed it by setting my proxy to webcache.blueyonder.co.uk:8080

Same problem here, i know a friend of mine who is also having the same problems. We are all in the Dudley area and once again by turning on the blueyonder webcache this solves the problem of being unable to access certain sites.

Thank you to all who have responded.
I am using the webcache proxy for now - seems to be working ok.
Does anyone feel this is an issue that should be reported to VM?

Cheers,

Gerb.
