try changing the wireless channel, sounds like data congestion. I have the same problem, most channels around me are saturated.

and you can use Netstumbler to see what channels everyone around you is using

My wireless speed is crap as well, I lose about 8-10Mb. That's why I asked about a second modem in another thread. My PS3 is already like treacle hard wired but wireless it's useless. Download a demo in about 3 days from PSN!

I have got a linksys wrt54g which i have been using for the last couple of years and I normally get about 12mbit when I am using a laptop, it isn't full speed but it is more than enough for what we use the laptop for. File downloads and gaming are done on the PC which has a wired connection and thus full speed.

I'm using a airport extreme with my MacBook (both wireless n). I have not really had any issues since moving to this hardware. Below are the results of a speedtest i did at 8:30 in the evening.

Thats with the airport extreme set to 5GHz.

the computer i did a speedtest on was connected straight into the wireless hub

I'm guessing this means you had a cable connected between the wireless router and the pc (it is not a hub) so it wasn't a wireless connection, other posters to this thread seem to have been confused by the title.

If you are losing speed on a wired connection I would check the MTU sizes on the router and pc.

On my wireless network I get 2.5MB/s (~25Mbps) no problem (LAN of course not internet), but there are next to no other wireless AP's in the area and I'm on an "odd" channel (8 I think) away from the defaults.

I get around 18 meg on my laptop and thats downstairs the router is upstairs, its a belkin 125 router. I did notice though in my stepsons room which is around 20 feet from the router and using a belkin pci lan card he only gets around 1-2 meg.

So god knows how the laptop modem is better considering its down stairs.
