Hi i am thinking of moving my router into the back room of the house. This is to enable me to recieve internet connections in the studio i just built at the bottom of the garden. Now i have my main virgin inlet in the front room from which there is 2 cable's - one to the V+ box in the back living room and one to the old ntl box in the front room of the house. The cable that goes to the box in the front room is split using a splitter (3.5dB x2) - this then feeds the modem which has a 4dB forward path equaliser and a 3dB forward path attenuator and the old ntl box. Still with me? So the idea is to transfer the modem and the router to the back room using the splitter. Would this work? or would it be better to get in a tech from VM? I can't see why there would be a problem but i am no expert!! The other alternative's are replace my old MSI wireless router for something with a bit more range or run cat5 all the way to the studio at the bottom of the garden some 45m away? Would i get a signal through that much cable? Any help re this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Rob

AFAIK its £75 to move the modem somewhere else. You could use long ethernet cable, but it would look abit unsightly and there maybe deterioration. Or get a wireless N router, such as a D-Link DIR-655.

Assuming you have electricity in the studio, you could get a set a homeplug adapters.

That's networking over the electricity mains. I'm not sure about the range, but I assume it would work over the 45 meters you mention.

Cheaper than a tech visit, and no wiring running round the house:

Wireless Repeater (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1130267578138&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper)

A cable shouldn't be a problem, ethernet can run up to 100m iirc. As to unsightly it comes in any colour you like and you could always bury it. About £17 including p&p on ebay for a 50m cable, you might get one locally cheaper.

another solution is to simply increase the length of the ethernet cable from the modem to the router, effectively just moving the router.
