Well as the title says we upgraded to 20mg about 1month to 1 and a 1/2 months ago and maybe 1-5times a day i would reset the modem because when i go onto my browser it would like freeze ( just show a white page but the application has no frozen) but i can go on msn etc its just the browser and when i restart the modem and router it works. I used to be on 2mg and this never happened only when we upgraded to 20mg also the modem gets hotter since were on 20mg could that be why?

Please do what is posted below, and the model is important with you being on 20MB.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Post what modem you have and your power levels from your config pages of your modem. The should be a sticker on the bottom saying what model.

Open a browser and in the address bar put or click the link > http://192.168.100.1/ the password and username are both root if required.

What I want you to post is the Downstream power levels including the SNR and the Upstream power levels for me thanks.

DO NOT POST YOUR MAC ADDRESS OR SERIAL NUMBER

As I thought that modem is not 20MB capable and needs replacing, you will need to call Tech Support and get it swapped.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tech Support is open 24/7 on the numbers below.

For help with your TV or Phone and for Broadband Technical Support:

Call Product Support/Faults on 151 option 3 from your Virgin Media Phone. It's absolutely free.

Or call 0845 454 1111 from any other phone line.

Sounds like the Downstream Frequency could be off too, goto http://192.168.100.1/gscan.htm and change the starting frequency so it ends in six zeros if it doesn't.

I have the same modem and virtually identical power levels, plus I am on 20MB so the must be an issue elsewhere such on the uBR, it might be a good idea to call Tech Support and get your connection checked out.

He is on 20MB using a DPX100 so the frequency does not matter.;)

The DPX 100 not being 20mb compatible wouldn't cause disconnections (I have doubts that it isn't however, mine used to download at 1.9MB/s), however rereading th OP I notice his MSN still worked so I would suspect a browser issue. If it's ie6 I would disable browser extensions if ie7 I would reset it. If it's another browser it would be handy to know which one.

I wasn't trying to suggest he didn't need a new modem, rather a method to improve the connection while waiting for it to arrive.

Downstream Frequency
339000000 Hz

That's ok then, if it was off then you would need to reboot 5 times a day, so I just wanted to check. Are they sending you a new modem yet?

Here is a quick fix for resetting the DPX100 signal.

---------------------------------------------------------------
A Frequency fix for Scientific Atlanta DPX100 modems

Click the link and you will get a popup telling you " set successfully"
Close the message box and your modem will reboot and lock on to the correct frequency, this should help until your new modem turns up.

http://192.168.100.1/gscan.cgi?freq=0

Won't that set it to 0? Surely you want http://192.168.100.1/gscan.cgi?freq=331000000 and anyway it is fine so no point changing it.

That locks onto the better frequency and does actually work.

This happens to mine as well and my modem says its 20Mb compatible - using FF3 and IE7 irrespective of PC Activity, although more frequently when downloading from iTunes and the like. I wondered if it was because the internet generally has no QoS applied which prioritises different types of traffic. Most file transfer protocols are notoriously bandwidth hungry and take what they can get, hence whilst apps such as FF or IE continue to work they don't get the data for the page downloaded and hence you get the white page.

Post what modem you have and the power levels as shown above.
