Im a premium customer for RS and have been having a strange issue for some months now, somtimes downloads will fly through and finish with no problem but 90% of the time my downloads start and then suddenly stop and the speed goes to 0.0k then my internet dies (still conneted but cant load any websites) , its a really anoying problem as it happens every 20 seconds or so and i must restart my router/net connection for it to restart the download..ive tried programs flashget and some other dl manager but they al have the same problem. ive read of other people experiancing the same issue, is it VM related or?? anyway to solve it?

Easiest way to start to work out whether this is a VM issue or a local one is to try taking your router out of the loop.

Try your machine just connected to your modem for a little while and see if that helps.

You need to reboot everything (modem, PC) when you swap the connection over.

i think u will find its proberbly a VM problem, im a premium member with Rapidshare and rarely get over 500k with em at any time of the day on my VM connection yet can get much faster on a friends AOL ADSL connection.

Rapidshare works fine with me, the 500k thing chris might be the upload slots on rapidshares side, I can't draw a full 20mb from a single link but can draw it if im downloading from 3 or 4.

I use Flashget & RS (Premium). I get 700kb-1.1mb per link when its NOT the STM. I pile a load of links up & go for a coffee :) or work as the Flashget downloads in the background

I'm downloading from RapidShare right now, only downloaded about 400MB earlier today on my 10MB connection. I'm currently getting between 20-50KB/s.

Seriously thinking of switching ISP's...this is a **** take.

When I was on 2mb I had no problems but when I moved to 10mb my router sometimes would crash and need rebooting so I had to buy a new one and the problem has stopped.

i have an Zyxel P-320w and works fine

That particular router costs a little more than the zyxel router that I had so maybe your P-320w is a better chipset or something… I tried the latest firmware and there support

phil this is exactly whats been happening to me. My download will start and then it suddenly pauses for like 5 secs and starts again. Lasts for couple seconds then pauses again. Connection drops to 0.0 and then starts again showing 234 or 300 or whatever. Then pauses. I thought it may be firefox but ie didnt work either. However if its virgin blocking rapidshare im not sure how they are doing it.

I'm currently getting a whopping 39.1KB/s from RapidShare, but still getting 1MB/s from other servers. Whoop.

I get the stuttery connection only when using the service as a free user - with a friend's premium account i get 2400kb/s no stutter etc.
