just been with VM for a couple of weeks now and can't seem to get speeds greater than 7Mb even though we are on their 20Mb service. this even applies when the modem has been pluggd directly into a computer so there is no slowdown from the woreless router.

for example this morning i did a speed test and was getting a download speed of around 500k. This seems to be the NORM regardless of the time of day and is really starting to **** me off. Is there anything i can do that you guys can recommend. Ive tryed restarting the modem and the router but still no joy.

I'm sure someone with a more technical inclination will be along shortly to analyse signal levels etc, but in the meantime have you tried this: http://www.virginmedia.com/help/broadband/using/20mb-broadband-optimisation.php and http://www.virginmedia.com/help/broadband/troubleshooting/slow-broadband.php

Hi!

Me and my roommates are having the exact same problem!
And we've tried everything, and I really mean EVERY possible thing!
Maybe the only thing to do is to call Virgin Media...!

You spoke to Customer Services who on average do not have a clue about anything regarding Broadband, I have not been Traffic managed for many months.

If Customer Services tell you anything regarding your Broadband service then post what they tell you on here and we will correct it for you.

Thanks for that, but do post the Customer Service stuff as it does raise a smile, even though sometimes they get a bit misguided.

I ahve connected the modem directly on numerous occassions and i recieve around 500k - 7Mb. it varies, but today was particularly bad and even if i was being traffic managed it should still be faster than 500k right?

cable modem says this Euro-DOCSIS 1.0/1.1/2.0 Compliant

it is the latest modem that they are issuing as i have only been connected for about 3 weeks. normally im connected through wireless but one of my housemates is wired to the router and still recieves rubbish speeds.
