Broadband and TV OD not working?

hi all i have 20 meg broadband and XL TV package and for about a hour tonight both services stopped working.
my internet stopped working modem lights didnt display any cable, data send,receive? only the power light and pc light was green?
i then noticed that on my virgin tv box MODEM was flashing continuously and no on demand services will work.
obvioulsy the TV box needs internet access for on demand services to work and both my TV and broadband are linked together so if my tv on demmand services arent working so wont my broadband work.
both services have now started working again on there own without my doing or alerting any settings or equipment is this a common problem and what can i do next time this happens.

Touch wood this isn't a common occurrence, well not in my area anyway, maybe once or twice a year if that, but try this link its the VM service status page.
At least then you'll know if its just you or a more widespread problem.

Hopefully its just one of those unexplained outages that seem to fix themselves, either way in my experience they are very rare.
Virgin certainly have their faults but the service is generally very reliable.
