Hi

I have a strange error on my cable modem - it is not picking up the ToD. The error log states:

************ 4-Error D4.3 ToD request sent - No Response received
************ 5-Warning D103.0 DHCP RENEW WARNING - Field invalid in response
************ 4-Error D530.8 DHCP - Invalid Log Server IP Address.
************ 4-Error D530.6 DHCP - Invalid Time Offset.
************ 4-Error D4.3 ToD request sent - No Response received
************ 5-Warning D103.0 DHCP RENEW WARNING - Field invalid in response
************ 4-Error D530.8 DHCP - Invalid Log Server IP Address.
************ 4-Error D530.6 DHCP - Invalid Time Offset.
************ 4-Error D4.3 ToD request sent - No Response received

and while there do not seem to be any problems with the connection, I am wondering if this could be a symptom of something else.

I have cable TV, and no problems seen there. I have contacted technical support who just said that they could not see a problem and not to worry...

I have re-booted multiple times with no effect...

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this, and if I should no something (like order a new modem - which I would prefer not to do).

Thanks
Tim

Be careful of reading modem logs, because what happens when you reboot your modem is that every single update for that modem is received at the same time giving you those worrying logs.

My modem is a Motorola and if I look in my logs I will find some with the Date stamp of 1970 and we did not have broadband then.

Most people have very similar logs to yourself.

Post what modem you have and your power levels from your config pages of your modem. The should be a sticker on the bottom saying what model.

Open a browser and in the address bar put> 192.168.100.1 password and username are both root if required.

What I want you to post is the Downstream and the Upstream plus what model the modem is for me thanks.

DO NOT POST YOUR MAC ADDRESS OR SERIAL NUMBER

Thanks for the advice - the reason for the concern is that this is a change from a month or so ago. The modem is a Motorola 4100. The status screen says:

Task Status
Acquire Downstream Channel Done
Obtain Upstream Parameters Done
Establish IP Connectivity using DHCP Done
Establish Time Of Day Failed
Transfer Operational Parameters through TFTP Done
Register Connection Done
Cable Modem Status Operational
Initialize Baseline Privacy Skipped

with a "Failed" next to "Establish Time of Day"

Power levels are:

Downstream Value
Frequency 339000000 Hz Locked
Signal to Noise Ratio 37 dB
Power Level -4 dBmV
(The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Please Reload/Refresh this Page for a new reading )

Upstream Value
Channel ID 4
Frequency 29200000 Hz Ranged

Power Level 38 dBmV

Thanks for your help.

Ring up Tech Support and speak to them about your problems as that is quite an old modem .
The 4100 models was Ethernet and USB, and Motorola soon introduced a model with USB as well, the 4100 . Apart from the USB connector the 4100 also had a Standby button on the front. The 4100 remained in use until approximately October 2001.
Does not support 10 or 20Mbps Tiers of Service

I think, from the sounds of it, I should just order another one. Tech Support were really very unhelpful - they just repeated the mantra "we cannot see a problem"...Thanks for the advice.

What speed are you on?

the TOD is normally established from the network itself during modem boot up

it could just be that the network isnt sending out a TOD

if its not broke dont fix it..
however the SB4100 is an old modem and doesnt support above 10mb broadband.

If you are weiry of it.. get it replaced..

but i suppose the way virgin will look at it is.. your net cons fine.. so why bother?
