Since last weekend speed on my FTP downloads and also Peer to Peer inc BBC Iplayer has been appauling, Im lucky to get 6kb/s.

On normal net downloads from sites speed is fine.

Hmm.. I know VM throttle certain ports, but i've not heard of them blocking them.
What's your client & what ports are you using?
You could try (if you're not already) dynamic / private ports: 49152 - 65535
I do & i've not noticed any problems with speeds, aside from the tight arses who refuse to seed, but thats hardly headline news eh lol ;)

Your title is confusing Welshchris, if VM were blocking ports, you'd get zero traffic on certain protocols.

throttling might be more apt if they are actually doing that

I've amended the title to lower the confusion level a bit ;)

To lower the confusion level a bit more...

NTL have, for years, blocked some ports to help stop the spread of worms. Details here:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/06/11/ntl_port_blocking_plan/

I imagine VM still do the same.

Yeah I have heard that NTL do that and they annouced over a year ago that they was blocking more and more ports due to virus's spreading

Chris have you tryed using the connections without ur firewall or tryed different ports

Well if we're "getting things in" I'd like to throw in that the random capitalisation of his words is grammatically incorrect :D

However in response to the topic at hand, VM don't care what you do with your connection and your personal habbits are your own, UNTIL it becomes out of hand and puts someone in danger or has another cause for concern.

There can never be separate itemised billing on broadband accounts, its just not possible like the old days of dial up when you had premium rate dialers gaining its way into your PC and costing you £3/min to look at naughty pictures :D

i wouldnt have said my personal use is out of hand when it comes to my connection. Downloading anywhere between 6 - 20GB a month usually, the max ive downloaded in 1 month over the past 6 month is 32.4GB.

I wouldnt have said thats out of hand
