Post what modem you have and your power levels from your config pages of your modem.

Open a browser and in the address bar put> 192.168.100.1 password and username are both root if required.

DO NOT POST YOUR MAC ADDRESS OR SERIAL NUMBER

hi buddy i am a service tech for vm depending on what area u live in downstream levels should be anything from 0 to +2 they are the ideal readings 8.6 is not that bad the thing is if vm use an attenuators they can cause noise on the line

I take it your an NTL Tech because the Telewest power levels are -12 to +12

you need VM to come out to your property, you can do this by calling them on 150 from your home telephone or some other number (can't remember)

why is it too high then? what will virgin do about it,
dont really have any issues tbh,just thought i'd check
the levels,what are the usual problems of a high downstream.

could be numerous different reasons. we don't know, and that's why we've told you to contact VM directly :)
